Cannot believe I'm writing a review about a railway station but Iiyama Station is ultra clean, ultra modern and has excellent facilities to use while waiting for Shinkansen or buses to Madarao/Nozowa Onsen etc.we arrived on a Public Holiday Saturday when it was particularly busy but all seemed calm and plenty of help was on hand. The Tourist Info office is warm and inviting , a good place to wait with informative helpful staff and there are small shops within where one may buy or hire ski gear, buy food for the journey or souvenirs to take home.Signs are written in English and Japanese and there is a huge supermarket across the road. As there are no cash machines at Madarao, remember to get cash from from mini mart nearby.

This info centre is very handy when arriving on the JR train. It is located on the ground floor with lockers outside. Next door is an outdoor store with everything to hire or buy & a small supermarket (although the large supermarket is only just outside to the left a short walk on the corner - great for snacks and packaged meals) Just outside the door is all the bus stops and taxi services.
English speaking assistance is great. Very knowledgable. They also sell some local made souvenirs and post cards. Also a nice place to sit and read while waiting for your train....

Cycling in Spring and Summer is a must in Iiyama. We did it in June 2018 when the temperature dropped to 18’C yesterday. It was so cooling. The view is magnificent. The bike lanes are provided.
Tomoko speaks good English and is vey helpful. She even recommends us to go to Nozawa Onsen and Madarao for summer activities.
This town and this place is super modern and clean. Love the North Face jackets and electric bikes! We’ll be back!

The staff were very helpful in translating the information available for us, but there was very little in English in the way of maps or activities. Their handwritten notes on what they did have was very helpful however. Kudos to them for their assistance!

Lovely modern place on the bottom floor of the train station with a view to the departing buses. Great place to get information about sights, travel and day trip bus departure for places like Snow Monkey Park, Nozawa Onsen and so forth. Staff are great and really helpful.

Fantastic Railway Station, has a great cafe on the first floor with a clock that does a show every 30 minutes or so. Has a selection of different information shops. park your car here and walk to the village for some food and historical information, has a few great shrines also. Most people don't stop to check this village out, make sure you go the Doll Museum also, incredible a must..

Great service and nice new facilities. The information centre was very welcoming, even letting us sit and eat purchased food from the local supermarket.

The lovely girl who assisted us, MANY TIMES, from the Iiyama Station Tourist Information Centre was patient, helpful and no question or problem too big regarding extra activities or travel around the area. Spoke English very well and very knowledgeable with extra activities around Iiyama prefecture. She booked us a hassle free minibus one day to get us to our next activity.
Small Iiyama souvenirs available for purchase at the centre too.
Busses and trains all leave from this area. A warm cafe on level 1 or supermarket close by that if you are to wait for transport you can get a hunger fix if needed.
