We had three nights at Dotonbori on our visit to Osaka and as we were there on a Sunday wanted to see a less frenetic side of the city. This park is a real oasis for locals. There were hundreds of family and larger groups cooking barbecue lunches and spending a beautiful day out of doors in an absolutely gorgeous setting. We were intrigued with the 'Coleman' buggies which brought all the cooking gear, food and drinks from the parking area. Many setups included shelter tents and areas where children and adults were playing outdoor games. The park includes beautiful gardens and wooded areas as well as lovely playgrounds for the children who were enjoying the time with their parents at the end of the week. This would be a lovely tranquil spot to visit any time of the week and is easily accessible on the metro but seeing the cities residents at their leisure on a Sunday lunch was a special experience. We were not properly prepared for a picnic but some Takoyaki and beer from a small stall kept us going for the excursion. This park is worth a visit if you have the time and the desire for a break from Osaka's hurly-burly.

Walking, biking, picnics this park has it all. A wonderful place to bring the family and have a great day in a huge beautiful park so close to the city but so expansive it feels like your in the country. This place is truly a gem in Osaka

Nothing but positive things to say about this park and the museum. If you are just there to see the farmhouses then you definitely have a longer walk, but the park itself is no slouch. The park and museum are situated on the red subway line past Shin-Osaka, you will need to add a small additional fare at the station. Entrance fee for the park is free and 500y for the farmhouse museum but it is well worth the price of admission. Like a lot of places in Japan, it is closed on Mondays. Cherry and plum blossoms abound and the only other occupants you may need to contend with are the locals, school children, joggers, and visitors who are willing to venture a little further out of Osaka. I highly recommend a visit for families with younger children.

We walked through this park on our way from the Monorail station to the Open-air Farmhouse Museum. It was Saturday 4 April, the height of the cherry-blossom season, and the entire park was a picture of pink and white blossom. As well, the flower-beds were all flourishing, with tulips and other bright blooms. Best of all, from our point of view, was seeing all the Japanese families enjoying the sunny day with their little kids, playing games, picnicking etc. Just a lovely place for anyone who, like us, enjoys parks and seeing folk enjoying simple pleasures in beautiful surroundings.

Lots of really interesting old farmhouses which were disassembled, relocated from all over Japan and rebuilt in this lovely setting. You can go into most of the farmhouses and see the conditions in which people lived. Good explanatory texts in English, easy and quick to get to from Central Osaka. Surprisingly good, particularly on a nice day. ¥500 for adults.

Lots of trees and well maintained park. A great place for young kids to enjoy- wading in the clean running water and running around.
Culture exposure to old farm houses transported from different cities/towns of Japan

Sprawled over a vast area, Hattori Ryokuchi Park is a fine place for an outing. Nothing particularly extraordinary. However, a good place for kids to play. If you're a jogger, it's a good place to run. Plum and cherry blossom trees are located in certain areas, so don't miss the chance in the right season. An artificial lake within the park is not too bad either. Some of the gardens need proper maintenance. Fairly big parking space. Cyclists are welcome. Hot and cold drinks available in vending machines.
