Shearwater is picturesque! It’s a great walk for children and dogs, fairly flat if you stick to the lakeside road. Entry is free, however donations are recommended (there is an honesty box available).

Went there on the spur of the moment and at first very cool breeze by waters edge so wandered off into the woods.
Even though there were loads of people around once in the woods you are on your own most of the time list taking in the views and listening to the bird song.
Had a wonderful couple of hours and those hills do test your stamina out.
Definitely worth a visit.

Enjoy coming here. Great for families, friends, dog walks and fishing. Only bad thing is the fishing cost is a bit steep but my kids still enjoyed it.

Such a beautiful place to walk, definitely worth a visit. You can park opposite the entrance and put a donation in the box.

peaceful area. a perfect location for nature walks. you may just have a relaxing walk by the lake or choose to go deep into the forest. Little pretty cafe at the entrance of the park also serves well and meets the needs. We haven't tried; but, sailing and fishing alternatives also seems interesting.

I have been visiting this lake for many years..It is ideal for walks , picnics or just relaxing in wonderful peaceful surroundings, where you can watch grebe and many other waterfowl and fish leaping.
However in the last year the tearoom, under new ownership, has made our visits even more enjoyable. There is an excellent selection of cakes, scones and gluten free options available. Breakfasts and light lunches are served as well as Ice creams in a number of varieties, which we highly recommend. Extremely helpful staff make this an excellent place to visit.

Stopped off here at this beautiful place for a picnic as part of a classic car run.
Lovely sunny day and lots of people enjoying the beautiful setting. Lots of picnic spots and shady areas to get out of sun if needed.
You can drive round lake or cycle it or do walks. Has a lovely cafe and honesty box for a £1 to park there.
Great place !!

On a walk yesterday from Shearwater to heavens gate I noticed some elevated viewing platforms amongst the woods, anyone know if they are able to be used by anybody who walks past? Do you need to pre book? Anybody here used them? What can be seen from up there? Thanks in advance.
Does anyone know if there are toilets facilities open at Shear Water at the moment with social distancing etc? Thanks.

It is a very long walk round the lake I've never done it.
No it isn't signposted you just come to it on the left on the way to the Bath Arms.
Yes there are car parking facilities.
