Center of the cemetery and the domicile of Kukai's 'spirit'. Large hall lit up by Japanese lanterns. Before entering, you smack some of the incense powder on your hands and bow. Nice but you are not allowed to photograph neither the outside nor inside of the structure.

Torodo temple or Lantern Hall is at the most sacred area of Mount Koya
2019. dec.
This temple is just in front of the mausoleum of Kobe Daishi Kukai ( the founder of Shogun Buddhism in Japan. It is a place of peace and inspiration, particularly during the morning chanting of the monks at 5am.

The entire atmosphere in this part of Koyasan is just amazing and it is definitely worth stopping here. The setting is breathtaking and the temple is very beautiful.

inner most of Okunoin ,there is important peaceful lantern hall
2018. júl. • Egyszemélyes
it's quiet place with shelves of golden lanterns ,at the back of monastery . It makes feeling of calmness and peaceful manner. it's place for pilgrimage and pay homage to master Kukai. The Kishin Lantern, presented by the priest Kishin, and the Shirakawa Lantern, donated by the retired Emperor Shirakawa, standing in front of the hall have continuously burned for close to a thousand years. photo is very strictly prohibited there.

Eternal Light
2017. dec. • Baráti
The temple of 10,000 lanterns is an impressive structure from the outside. Inside the donated lanterns that are eternally lit are a magnificent sight. There are no cameras permitted when you cross the Gobyonohasji Bridge so no pics of the temple or lanterns.

In a sea of temples, Torodo is an island
2017. szept. • Egyszemélyes
Everything about a visit to Okunoin encourages silence and inspires awe, and after having walked amongst near ancient cedar, cypress, red pine, hemlock fir, and umbrella pine trees, a multitude of moss covered Jizo Bosatsu, passing through Gokusho Offering Hall with its Mizumuke, crossing over Gobyonohashi Bridge... arriving at Toro-do, the Hall of Lanterns is no different. The temple can be visit at any hour, but access to the interior of both the main and lesser buildings is only possible during the day (at dawn the temple opens for morning prayers)... at night though, there is an experience of unrivalled serenity, sitting in the dark, under soft lantern light, viewing the Mausoleum of Kobo Daishi as devotees come and go, praying, lighting candles and offering incense.

Spectacular Lantern Hall
2017. máj. • Romantikus
One of the many sights at the eastern end of Koya. You will doubtless by walking up here to visit Okuno-In. Be sure to visit the Lantern Hall.

VERY restrictive photo policy.

A beautiful and serene temple.

You cannot take pictures anywhere in the (small) complex.

We burnt a small candle and some incense.
