Would highly recommend to go to Place du Chatelain for the Wednesday market. It starts in the afternoon and finishes around 7:30pm depending on the weather. You'll find lots of food, cheeses, wine, flowers, dim sum, meats, clothes, candy, nuts, fruit and vegetables.

During the summer, 100's of people in their 20's-40's gather outside the bar Le Chatelain on Wednesday's after the market. It opens an outside door to serve drinks to the throngs standing outside, dodging the garbage trucks that cleanup after the market. There is also often a DJ booth set up in front of Le Pain du Chatelain for the 20 something crowd. For the late 40's-50's single scene, there is a place called Cosi on Rue American that also spills onto the street.

If the weather is bad, try the wine bar Vinotec, directly behind the Trinity church, it closes at 11 however and is quite small.

From there you can eat at the many restaurants. A new one, Chez Odette, is very trendy (Rue Du Chatelain). One of my other favorites is the Macaron, Rue Aqueduct. It accepts only cash. Definitely try the Filet Pur. Momma Roma's Pizza, on Rue Du Page is really popular. The entire Rue Du Page can get very packed on the summer, so don't park there if it is Wednesday and a beautiful summer day. You might end up unable to move it due to the crowd.

If you still want to keep the party going after dinner, there is a great international Karaoke bar to the right side of the Trinity Church, called SNAP. The door is a bit difficult however and they take their Karaoke quite serious.

If all the surface car parks with some trees were listed on TripAdvisor there would be a tremendous number of such listings. Why Place du Châtelain, with its parked SUVs and other vehicles that should be banned from city centres, should deserve an exception is a mystery to us. There is nothing to see, really. The architecture isn’t interesting and there are few shops, restaurants or cafés on the square itself. Most are to be found in the adjoining streets where there are some pleasant spots like Lulu Home. The very expensive food market on Wednesday (2 p.m. to 7 p.m.) seems to attract a lot of well-to-do French expats. Locals stay away.

This is one of the loveliest areas in Brussels with lots of restaurants, bars, shops and "multi-national" hippy yuppies all. On a sunny day, you might struggle to find a place to sit down for a beer. If you love shoes shopping, you must go to De Griff where you can find discounted designer shoes.

This is a small, leafy square at Brussels' bohemian neighborhood of Ixelles. Supposed to be an ideal option for a stroll, extensive roadworks, common in the Belgian capital at the time of writing, ruin the experience. The small market is interesting, though.

Some nice clothes shops in the neighborhood all of which are boutiques. It's expensive to buy a place here, though renting is reasonable if you can handle the discomfort of lack of elevators. There are some nice houses in the area and some good restaurants. No bargains here. Great lebanese, wonderful "raconte moi des salades", and overrated pizza take-out where you always wait in line, a shoes outlet which is very much worth it- they have lots of expensive brands and lots of choice (comfy or elegant shoes) There is a market there on wednesdays for the bio- artisanal- local- but rather expensive type of shoppers.( Better prices in Saint-Gillis on weekends. Products from France esp. cheese)

I have lived in Brussels for only 4 months. I live 5 minutes away from Place du Chatelain by foot, and it is one of my favorite places because it is lively and very fun. Go on a Wednesday and it is a guaranteed good time...lots of people watching, food merchants, people to meet!

Lovely area to get away from the hustle and bustle of Brussels. Market on a Wednesday afternoon was great too.

Le Chatelain is now THE place for you if you belong to the so called BOBO community (bourgeois-bohème) or if you just aspire to belong to.
Plenty of choice for a fashion lunch with very few belgian specialities (and people!). All you find here can be found half the price in other markets (beware of the marché de la place Van Meenen à Saint-Gilles which is unfortunately following the same BOBO stream).
Instead, if you enjoy watching rich people (and wannabe rich people), come later in the evening and enjoy the crowdy bars and dehors: they could be served dishwater they would not even notice it so hardly they are trying to show the others they are there too!

I went to the Place du Chatelain Market and had a really lovely two hours there. There is a good variety of food including various cheese stalls, fruit, vegetables, breads, waffles and other sweets, Italian food, Thai, Turkish, wine stalls etc. It's a great place to get some great food and wine, try your French although the stall owners seemed to be good also with English, mix amongst the locals and people watch. Worth a visit.

The Place du Chatelain itself has nothing great: small, not great architecture.
BUT the neighbourhood is very interesting: many and diverse restaurant, trendy shops.
In addition, every Wednesday there is a market. Very trendy and chic!
On top of this, rue Americaine, 5 mn from Place du Chatelain, you will find Les Petits Riens. A NGO doing an outstanding job for the underpriviledged. This is one of their largest shop, a kind of flea market where u can find all kind of stuff from second hand clothes, furniture, books, tableware, etc... an Alibaba cavern and all profits are for the NGO
