Da visitare sicuramente perché è parte della storia salentina, anche questa è una delle tante porte presenti nei comuni del Salento. Vera storia

Circondata dall'ampia omonima Piazza, oggi la vediamo com'era nella seconda metà del 1700. Collega il centro storico agli insediamenti moderni. Conosciuta come "Porta dell'Antro" o della "Grotta" nel 1500, è l'unica rimasta delle tre porte maggiori (le altre erano "Porta S. Antonio" e "Porta Castello"). Ricostruita nel 1748 in seguito al terremoto del 1743, è stata restaurata dall'Amministrazione comunale nel 1997-98. È sormontata dall'ottocentesca statua, in pietra leccese, di San Sebastiano. Dell'antica statua, andata in frantumi in seguito al suddetto terremoto, rimane la testa. In foto, oltre alla testa gelosamente conservata, la nostra Porta oggi, agli inizi del 1900 (circondata dalle mura e dal fossato) e intorno al 1950.

Questa Porta di accesso al "centro storico" di Galatone è una testimonianza monumentale estremamente interessante che segnalo in termini di bellezza architettonica e artistica. Il sito forse è un po' sottovalutato o comunque non stimato come dovrebbe,come pure buona parte della zona cittadina più antica non sembra essere del tutto valorizzata. La porta muraria cittadina risalente al 1748, ma in realtà "ricostruita" da quella pre-esistente dell'epoca angioina dopo il terremoto di qualche anno prima,segnava l'entrata meridionale alla città salentina.Ancora oggi presidia monumentalmente tale accesso. Sito consigliato.

Rappresenta l'antica porta di accesso al Centro Storico della Città di Galatone che mantiene un fascino discreto e coinvolgente pari se non superiore a quello della vicina Nardò.

Ultima rimasta delle tre porte murarie della città , è l'ingresso sud di Galatone. Si tratta di una ricostruzione perché la porta originaria fu distrutta da un terremoto.

nella fretta rimane quasi inosservata , invece al turista attento non sfuggono i particolari di questa porta che ti immmette nel centro storico di galatone.

La porta di San Sebastiano realizzata in carparo locale, è l'antica porta di accesso alla città e al centro storico. La statua del santo in pietra leccese la domina dall'alto. San Sebastiano è il protettore della città di Galatone, e anche la piazza antistante è intitolata a lui. Quando si va alla scoperta del centro storico di Galatone, davvero molto carino, è consigliabile accedervi proprio da questa porta. Unica pecca è il traffico. Infatti, pur essendo molto grazioso e da visitare (anche se ancora un po' poco valorizzato e tutelato), il centro di Galatone non è interdetto al traffico e, dunque, ogni due passi bisogna accostarsi per far passare i veicoli.
