I have over 4000 dives world wide. This is without doubt the best I've ever dived with. Boats are brilliant and purpose made for diving, oodles of space. All kit is immaculate and v well maintained. Most importantly all staff and owners are very knowledgeable friendly and great fun
Accomodation is economical clean and perfect for diving or other activities

People in the diving center are very nice, only the owner dont deserve them,he change the diving spot on the last moment, gotta dive on the same place, and have to wait 40 minutes couse couple of snorkels were coming,he left the boat alone while diving, which is something completly forbidden, only when somebody died he Will change It,shame for him.

Appreciate that Covid is an excuse for many things at the moment, and grateful for the opportunity to dive at all (as all the best rated dive centres in El Hierro seem to be closed at the moment because of the ongoing Covid restrictions - and the El Hierro marine life is simply incredible).

But if you want to see one thing (the El Bajon crater), and all you are getting if just the number of dives you’ve paid for - you inevitably feel disappointed. It’s also ironic when a dive center called El Bajon won’t let you dive in El Bajon. Plus, there are other things that could be improved... Hopefully, the below is helpful if you have a choice as to who to dive with in the future.

POSITIVES:

• new looking basic equipment (scuba gear, wetsuits)
• surface cover on the boat during the dive
• plenty of hot water in the shower to warm up afterwards - it doesn’t run out even if you are the last person to shower

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT:

• No prior consultation / briefing with divers on the day what dive sites they will see. They just bring you someplace, tell you what it is 5 mins in advance. Basically, if you paid for 2 dives, you will get two dives. But if that’s not what you wanted to see - tough luck
• no Nitrox available at the dive center
• dive leaders are too fast - just swimming off - no time / attempt to explore the dive site area. No air level checks during the dive - which is fairly basic best practice
• seemingly no interest in doing dives deeper than 20 metres (I guess if they have to drive the high altitude mountainous roads if they live anywhere outside of La Restinga, that explains it)

In a nutshell, a very basic offering / service and you get the number of dives you paid for. So more of a “fast food” type of place rather than a lovely local restaurant - to use the food analogy... Don’t think I’d be going back unless there is again no other dive center that is open.

A wonderful team of diving professionals. Very grateful for squeezing us in the baptism dive group on a short notice, and taking care during the dive (and a mild panic attack). A word of notice, communicating in English might be somewhat limiting, but the guys are very professional and know their onions... Great experience. Get ready to see some fantastic flora & fauna, and have a great time.

There are many dive operators in this town, after much research and a few visits to different dive operators in the area we were delighted with our choice of El Bajón.

We found that El Bajón had excellent, top notch, new equipment from the wetsuits to the dive boat which was fast and comfortable, to the changing facilities and hot showers in their colourful New York style mural fronted Dive premises, which included aprés dive facilities such as table tennis and even a bar.

The Dive instructors were friendly, patient and extremely professional. Fernando and Joseba were extremely helpful and attentive and nothing was too much trouble especially helping my children.

The dives were excellent, the viz being 30m! a good variety of local species and some dramatic caves and volcanic scenery, even the night dives in the marina were fun, with the octopus, shrimps and giant nudibranchs.

El Bajón also has a range of on site accommodation and a great roof terrace for sampling the local sunsets. We highly recommend Centro de Buceo El Bajón and we hope to return soon!
