Parked at the National Trust’s south beach car park (pay and display), it’s an easy walk down to Old Harry Rocks along the South West Coast Path. Fairly quiet although it was a Monday in January!
Impressive view but a head for heights recommended!

A popular tourist location which requires a good walk whichever direction you approach from. The walk is worth it as you get close up to the chalk cliffs which are near enough vertical - so beware.

There are plenty of National Trust car parks all within close proximity so t doesn't matter much which one you choose - all of course free to members. The walk itself was easy enough - flat compared to some parts of the Jurassic coast but nice and and breezy on a warm October day.

We visited Old Harry as National Trust members which made the car parking free. There is a one way system here but people tend to ignore it and with modern day cars being so big it can get cramped easily so be sure to arrive early and reverse park into the bay if you can as it’s easier to get out. The walk itself was nice and not strenuous meaning people of all ages and abilities could access it. It would be perfect for picnics but we went on a blowy day so be sure not to let anything fly away. The views are amazing on a clear day like today, the walk extends to a full nine mile hike if your feeling adventurous but we played safe and stuck with local. The pub by the car park was very busy but reasonably priced and on looking at the food coming out it looked amazing. This is not to be missed apart from the rock formation the view is just super clear when it’s sunny and it really is idyllic.

Stunning views at Old Harry Rocks! if you're a dare devil then you can walk onto the rocks at get to an edge, be mindful that you will get chalky! There are wild rabbits as you walk up to the rocks, and there are plenty of edges you can stop off at, we found a hidden gem where you can get amazing photos right on the edge. This would be perfect for sunset/sunrise.

Highly recommended walk with beautiful weather on the day we walked. Although fully blue sky weather in this part of the world is limited to around 25-55 days per year. We parked around 5 minutes walk from the start of the path, which winds you up to the view in around 20 minutes.
If you have a foreign licence plate, you can park your vehicle closer, on one of the double yellow lines (so long as you don't obstruct traffic) as if you get any penalty charges, you can avoid them due to your foreign licence plate
What concerns me is that there is no safety barriers on the cliffs edges , which is a serious safety hazard especially for those with young children.

What an amazing experience to see the rock formations from the Coast/Land rather than from a far (B’mouth) or the sea on a boat..
if you have a bike ride it like I did from B’mouth & shoot over on the Sandbanks Ferry (£2) or pop you bike in back of car as the walk is quite far from the car park to The Rocks..
A good Free experience & ideal picnic location up on the cliffs..

It's a long walk from Studland south beach car park but the views are amazing on both sides of the Old Harry Rocks. No facilities except from toilets near the car park. The walk is at least 1 hour there and back and there are few interesting views until you get near to the Rocks.

Use Boat Trip, is not expensive and your boy will love it. Is safe and kids love it.
Is it dog friendly?

There’s no car park nearby as far as I’m aware. We parked in the village next to the pub and walked up. Pay and display car park.
Hi,
Is the walking route suitable for a mobility scooter to drive along?
Thanks

not from either bay as cliff path is very steep, uneven and narrow but from the edge of town at the top of the headland out I would have thought it would be fine in good weather (mainly grass field to cross)

Hi Marc, thanks for the info we are heading that way tomorrow. Where are the car parks you mentioned situated please? I've heard parking can be a pain in those parts.
Thanks in advance!

I agree with the previous answer. the NT car park behind the Bankes Arms is the nearest and best place to park

Depends from where. From Studland bus stop it is about 2km of nice and easy walking. Definitely worth it!
