I went to Iffley Lock based on a recommendation from my family who had lived in Iffley for a couple of years more than 3 decades ago. I really think Iffley Lock should be rated much higher than what it is in Trip Advisor. It's not in the centre of town, but it remains a must visit place in Oxford. I spend more than two hours in Iffley Lock just wandering and the beauty of the place just stayed with me. When you come all the way from a big city like Delhi the way I did, Iffley Lock is really the kind of place you want to come and spend time in. I strongly recommend anyone visiting Oxford to come to Iffley Lock.

wonderful traffic free place to walk and enjoy the outdoors - people and boat watching. See how the lock is constructed and works. Enjoy the exercise and then stop for a drink. You can take a trip on the Thames on a self hire boat or on Salters steamers. Some pubs have their own moorings to tie up to. There are rowing 8s out on the river - you might even catch sight of the Oxford team.

Iffley Lock is a pretty lock and worth a see by itself but it is more impressive as part of a walk by the river banks. There is a path strechting from the head of the river pub in the centre of Oxford down to Iffley Lock and thus to Iffley village and both are worth a see. It will take you about half an hour or fourty minutes depending on walking speed to walk from the centre down Iffley Lock so give yourself a couple of hours one morning or afternoon and slowly walk a circuit down and back again through this scenic part of Oxford. Few tourists know of this walk, making it more of a thing for the residents of the city. Take a picnic or stop off in one of the local pubs along the way and you will have a pleasant trip.

Beautiful old part of the world. Picturesque walk through the medieval village of Iffley, the down to the lock and walk back to Oxford. Well worth the visit.

Iffley Lock is very picturesque, and it is very enjoyable to walk by the riverside. Unfortunately, during our visit the lock was closed for improvements ( according to the notice it is closed until January ) so we were not able to witness any boats going through the lock. Instead, we leisurely made our way over the weir & lock gates, through the immaculately maintained lock grounds, over a very old stone bridge and then down the river to the Isis Boat House. They were very few people on the pathway, just the occasional jogger or cyclist and a family feeding the ducks, swans and seagulls. However, it can get very busy during the summer.

Unfortunately the Isis Farmhouse pub on the riverside was closed as it only opens on Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the winter.

Iffley Village and Iffley Lock! What a place to spend a lazy afternoon! The walk around the 'village' is a pleasure, as there's so little traffic! The Church is beautiful, the pub lovely, but to walk down to the 'lock' and river, oh bliss! Just to sit and watch! Recommended for a 'Lazy Afternoon'! Don't forget nibbles for the ducks!

check out the kinds of boat rides you can have - they vary in size of boat and length of time and where they go. I did a medium sized boat (electric so nice a quiet) with a young man tour guide who told us about the area on the way up and played lovely Celtic music on the way back. It was about 1 hour - I could have gone longer for sure - totally delightful

Although the canal has many locks around Oxford this is one of the quietist because it is off the beaten track.. Ideal for walkers, there is a pub nearby and parking may be possible nearby out of peak periods. My wife accepted my proposal of marriage on the bridge late one night so it has a special significance for me!

This place is special. It takes me back to my childhood, and fortunately hasn't changed. It's lovely just to sit and watch the water world float by, in and out of the lock, and the lock-keeper's house and garden are stunning. Love it.

A very pleasant walk to get there and lovely for a sit down on a bench overlooking the lock. Lots of geese resting there too. A copy of the Cambridge mathematical bridge was there.
