About
The Almonry is a beautiful C14th building in the heart of the historic market town of Evesham. Once the home of the Almoner, one of the Benedictine Monks from the Abbey, the Almonry is now the town museum, Tourist Information Centre and gift shop. The museum tells the story of Evesham and the Vale from pre-history to mid-twentieth century with a beautiful garden, ideal for sitting and relaxing. Our gift shop stocks a wide range of souvenirs, postcards, walking maps and guides, books, gifts and handcrafted goods made by local makers and crafters. The Tourist Information Centre is packed with leaflets and guides to Evesham and the surrounding area. TIC staff are on hand to welcome you to Evesham and to help you get the most out of your visit and stay.

- Jane T15 contributionsA lovely litte gem in an otherwise dull town centre. Don't walk past, go in you'll be pleasantly surprised. This was a beautiful little museum, full of very interesting displays. Not huge, but crammed full of history and fascinating facts. The garden was also lovely and the house itself is just beautiful. Well worth a visit,Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 27, 2023
- VikingMenStourbridge, United Kingdom90 contributionsSmall museum full of curiosities.A small building, it's kind of a cross between a museum and an antiques shop. The place is crammed with exhibits covering the history of the place from prehistoric times. A lot are from Victorian times and the early 20th century. They're divided up by room and well-labelled. As you wander from room to room, you have to look carefully around each room to discover what's there. There are no tech or interactive exhibits, so I suspect children might get bored.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 7, 2023
- EESW1Lincolnshire, United Kingdom4,707 contributionsAn amazing place with so much to see - a must visit! Not only is the Almonry a very photogenic building, it contains an excellent museum covering the history and local history of the area. It is a wonderful hotchpotch collection of exhibits. There is almost too much to take in during a single visit, so make sure you keep hold of your ticket as it gives free admission for the rest of the year! This is a place to pop into frequently and enjoy. There is so much to see and there is something to appeal to everyone. The Simon de Montford display room has a model of the Battle of Evesham along with information about its significance and Simon de Montford. The Abbey room contains the great abbey chair - big enough to seat the whole family! I was fascinated by the C14th map of the world showing Jerusalem in the middle. Evesham was marked at the bottom along with places like Bristol, Worcester, London and Dover which were important trading partners. (It is a copy as the original is in the College of Arms. ) There is also a copy of the Abbey Bible that has a hand written description of the events of the Dissolution of the Abbey - the only existing eye witness account! There are displays of agricultural machinery including a very early machine to shear sheep, and displays of tools. The Civic room contains the civic regalia. In the corridor is the parish bier along with an iron bed used in the prison and manacles. There is a farm worker's kitchen and a school room. There is also the Evesham Tapestry - a wonderful depiction of the history of Evesham including Eof's Vision, the monks taking the ferry to their vineyards and the Battle of Evesham...Visited October 2023Traveled soloWritten October 17, 2023
- Tim HNew Westminster, Canada1,127 contributionsCharming, interesting, and just the right size. There may not be a single right angle in this building. The rooms are every which way, up, down, left, back, and the place is jammed full of all sorts of things. There's a cannon in the gazebo and a carousel horse in the shed. A throne here, stocks there, some guns, tools, equipment for making things you've never heard of, copies of old documents. It's marvelous. Most of all it shows us that our predecessors weren't so different; they just used different tools and methods.Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 19, 2023

In such a small museum it was unexpected to find the handwritten first person account of the dissolution of Evesham Abbey - in English too. Quite a dramatic story with the monks’ chanting interrupted - but at least they were able to pack up and go.
The other interesting story for me was the rebellion of Simon de Montfort which ended so badly for him, here in Evesham. A few examples of armour, and especially the padded jacket, enhanced the picture.
Otherwise, as others have said, there are lots of unrelated stuff, but it’s pleasant and inexpensive.

Very informative and knowledgeable front of house staff. The exhibits were well presented, clean and labelled so you knew what you were looking at. The visitor guide help steer you around the building and into the many individual rooms each depicting a different focus of local life in and around Evesham. Well worth a visit and the small entrance fee. Brilliant and fantastic, would go again. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

Went to this museum with a view to looking round. It was late afternoon, so we were aware of limited time. The young man on the till where you purchased tickets was talking to 2 ladies and telling them some story, we stood at the counter for about 10 minutes only to be ignored by both the staff and the 2 ladies, found this rude so decided to leave, such a shame as i am sure they need paying visitors.

OK, it's a local museum in an extremely old and fascinating building. However, it tries to do too much with the danger of becoming akin to a jumble sale. It would do better to reduce the number of items on display and focus on a small number of topics.

Just had a lovely time with the grandchildren at "Knight school" at the Almonry. The teacher was very patient and informative, the two girls loved it. They both recieved certificates and a free sword at the end.
Excellent fun and well worth the £5.
We would definately go back.
Thank you to everyone at the Almonry.

A fantastic couple of hours learning about Simon de Montfort, dissolution of the monasteries, life in gaol and PoW in Germany 1940s … and lots more. Woolly mammoths, huge molluscs, and old school rooms. Brilliant!
