Teeming with wildlife. Off the beaten track. Incredibly quiet. You can hear so many sounds of the birds and the insects that you might often miss.
A lovely spot.

Spent 2 hours driving round and about trying to locate the visitor centre to no avail.
If you use the post code and say nav, it is just general to the area so takes you up and down and round and round.
Used the OS map eventually but the designated parking area wasn’t really marked and so we just pulled in and my husband walked down! I’d lost the will to live by then!
Highlight was watching a robin take a bath whilst we were pulled up outside someone’s house, reading the map!
We tried to find the lake 30 years ago and that too was unsuccessful!
If you know where it is, and how to get there, I’m sure it’s lovely and peaceful as no one else will be there!

We tried to visit Llyn Alaw today without success. This large lake is not signposted anywhere it seems. We eventually found our way to what, on my up-to-date map, is marked as a visitor centre only to see a Welsh Water Water Treatment sign at the entrance. We carried on down more narrow lanes hoping to find an alternative access point but after a few miles we gave up. This lake is large but very well hidden and not very accessible. Maybe that is best for wildlife!

We knew the visitor centre had been vandalised and was closed by the treatment works so we tried the other approach via the narrow lane out of Llanerchymedd. We were unable to park in the designated area as the local farmer has parked farm machinery, ploughs and non moveable trailers in it..It used to be a very good trout fishery but i am uncertain if this still applies.

I did a bit of research on google maps and used a point postcode of LL65 4AS. This was pinned at the carpark entrance where I parked! (See Pics) This is an access road to the Water Treatment Works past the Dam. I was aware that the gate may be locked so left my mobile number in the window... Just in case!
A very quiet and peaceful area with trails around the reservoir. some needed cutting back, so walking boots advised! It was Sunny and warm when we went and walked around the dam area for about an hour. Spotted a few Red Admiral Butterflies in the Autumnal Sun and Gold Crests chattering in the trees.
