About
The museum contains informative and colourful displays about the prehistory and Roman history of Ribchester, using many archaeological finds from the site, including coins, sculpture and metalwork. There are also remains of the Roman fort and baths outside the museum. Regular events and temporary exhibitions take place throughout the year. Pre-booked guided tours and educational visits can be arranged by email. Our next event is Iron Age Day on Sunday 10th September 2017. Come and find out about life in Celtic Britain!

We visited after seeing the advert for the crafts and activities on in the school holidays. This part was fantastic with well thought out activities that were well explained and organised. My little girl loved it.

We also visit the museum which was very small but informative. My 5 year old was not very interested but I found it interesting. I would recommend the activities (on in the holidays- see their website) and looking at the outdoor (free) area if you are with small children.

I carefully planned a family trip to the museum (one hour journey one way). Just before leaving, I checked the museum's website for opening hours and last minute information. All seemed well. We were therefore dreadfully disappointed to find on arrival that the museum was closed for the day. A handwritten note stuck to the front door informed us that the closure was due to staff illness. Problems like this occur of course and it's understandable that a small museum might have to close for this sort of reason. That is not an issue. However, it's 2022 and there are more effective ways of communicating than a hand-written message stuck on the front door. What is the point of a website and a twitter account if it is not used on occasions like this?

We visited here whilst 'passing through' the area. It was an interesting place with quite a few interesting items. We had two little ones with us (2 and 5), our eldest did enjoy quite a few things, particularly the console that allowed you to explore the Roman Villa. As it was a school day when we visited it was fairly quiet. It was all ground floor. There were some outdoor ruins to look at nearby. They were a short walk, but you were there within a minute or two.

We had travelled for an hour and a half to come and look at the museum. We checked the opening times on the website before leaving. On arrival we found a note kn the door stating that they were closed that day. Very disappointing. There is a very good playpark a short walk away with a nice cafe nearby.

All of it I was so lucky to have Nicholas to show me around and give me information about roman history. So much to see. I loved it very interesting indeed. We need to support these meusems as if we don't they will become part of history. Let's not let that happen check it out its worth a look for sure. It's good to learn new things your never to young or old.

This is a charming little museum with no pretensions. It was lovely to see the artefacts discovered locally in what must have been a remote little Roman river crossing and fort 2000 years ago. Pop in. Its worth a look.

We took our some and daughter. Travelled an hour to get there to find that the church nearby had taken over the WHOLE village for a wedding. The car park outside the museum had been reserved for wedding cars and we were told to go and park somewhere in the village and walk back! Ultimately we couldn't park so went somewhere else instead. My advice phone before you attend and confirm if there's not a wedding funeral or christening on when you want to visit.
