The area
Address
Neighborhood: Opéra / Bourse
The neighborhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theaters, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.

Their ticket system online is a nightmare, just to buy a 11 euro ticket
They force you to "register" with he usual dozen mandatory fields (so they can pester you with spam)
And after they have taken your money, they tell you that you MUST print the ticket
Given that this is a tourist attraction, I don't know many tourists who carry a printer in their suitcase
(Nor many with the technical skills to use a hotel printer, should they be willing)
Anyway, I assumed I would not be the first paying customer with this problem, so I saved their ticket image on my iPad, and notd down THEIR ref number for the specific 10.30 booking
The guy at reception insisted that a printed ticket was the only path to happiness
THEIR ref number for the booking meant nothing to him, despite having a computer screen for booking before him
The image of their ticket on the iPad also drew blanks, and he was unable to photocopy it
He sent me to the Candy Concession that serves the REX cinema, where I got the same round the houses while a dozen people waited for candy
And then, with great heaving of shoulders, they printed out what they could have printed 20 mins before
The Reference number did matter!
The 50 min tour is pretty good. Being an early booker I got to be a group of one on a personal tour, and that featured exclusively in the green-screen video productions they show you
But they need to fix their ticket system, and get rid of the privacy-invasion of "registering"
Not needed to just buy a 11 euro ticket for a 50 min tour

I was at the Madonna concert on February 29, 2020. I was sitting on the balcony. It’s not convenient to watch such shows! There is no wardrobe. It was important for me to hear the Madonna and visit the oldest movie theater in Paris!

I wouldn’t have thought going to the picture was a Paris experience.
The Rex is simply fabulous. Great welcome, beautiful sits, great show before the movie 🎥. The biggest and one of the oldest cinema (1932)

We had visited Paris to see Mariza, who headlined a celebration of Fade...(Portuguese Folk music) .

Mariza was magnificent as were her musicians, passion, straight from the heart; wonderful...there were however two things which got in the way of making the whole night totally excellent.

The Rex operates a rule of have you seated by an usherette who explained to everyone she seated that she was 'not on wadges' and relied upon tips. What an appalling and unnecessary practice. I felt caught off-guard; not wishing to be mean, I always tip where I can or where it is appropriate. I run an Art Cafe and Music venue myself, where total customer satisfaction, indeed where it is exceeded...that is our goal. Our customers tip because they choose to. The management need to re-visit this practice as it is out-dated and insulting.

Secondly, the have so much focus in extracting money from the clientele, they have one choice of bubbly, a Champagne which was as cheap as cheap can be, and an insult to the name Champagne, yet they charged nearly ten Euros for a glass. When we tasted it, and returned it almost to the brim, they refused to compensate, and it required some effort to have them exchanged for something else. Would not return to such a venue, with free tickets and a back-stage pass!

Spend your money with those who deserve it...NOT THE REX!

My son-in-law found this theatre on our trip to Europe and we loved it. We saw the Joker in English and on a small scene by Rex standards which was still huge by North American ones. It was a wonderful experience and the lavish surroundings give you a taste of the once great cinematic event.
We bought our tickets in the lobby which allowed us to take time for photos and to enjoy the fabulous entrance. Every detail is a treat for the eye.
Our smaller viewing room was still lavish in detail and I am sorry that we were unaware of the tour option while we were in Paris.
Loved our comfortable and enjoyable evening here.

We went here for Take That’s Paris concert & the venue is just amazing. Intimate, beautifully decorated, and easy to get to on the metro.

I had found out about this Behind the Scenes Tour on the Get Your Guide App.
Although I have been to Paris on three prior occasions, I had not heard of this Theatre or it's vast history!
The ticket price was €11, and last about 50 minutes. My Tour was with a Grandmother and her Grandson, so it went a little bit quicker. I don't know the maximum per Tour, but I would suggest booking ahead to be sure.
When you book the Tour you can select the language of the Tour.
What I didn't realise, was that there is no "device" to wear. All the messages come from speakers throughout the Theatre.
It is interactive. Very interactive!!!
I don't want to say too much more, so I don't spoil it for others. Suffice to say, make sure you have your "acting shoes" on!!
This is one Tour that I would definitely be back to do once I have completed my RADA Degree!! LoL

Le Grand Rex is Europe's biggest cinema with 2800 seats!

Located on Grands Boulevards, the Grand Rex is now a national historical landmark. It has very art déco exteriors and is richly decorated on the inside. There are 7 screens inside, and the Grand Large, the largest screen in Europe. A huge cinema that seats over 2000 people, it is like a massive concert hall. For every film, a huge screen drops from the ceiling and it is just awesome. The interiors are all mediterranean and beautiful and there are stars on the ceiling. The experience in Grand Large is unbelievable. Most of premiers in Europe happen here and this is where you will see many stars for the premiers. They often have avant premiers and movie marathons and even re-screenings of many classics. Films here are usually screened in the original version with French subtitles, and they do Hollywood, Bollywood and many other films.

Grand Rex also had a behind the scenes tour of the Rex Studios.

There is no fixed seating, so expect long queues for premiers and good films. The food is decently priced and the staff is nice. Students and other usual categories receive reduced pricing.

The closest metro is Bonne Nouvelle on Metro lines 8 and 9. The station name is written like the Hollywood sign in LA because of the presence of Grand Rex and many other cinemas on the Grands Boulevards.

This place is truly a gem! Wonderfully taken care of theater with a feel from a different era! We went on Christmas Day. Things to note. The line for movie start is outside (it is cold in Dec)and doesn’t go inside until the actual movie start time, not a minute early. Lol. I wouldn’t recommend getting there too early in winter. We purchased tickets earlier and went to dinner, so we were not outside for that long. Also, for those of us spoiled with a lot of leg room, there isn’t any of that here. Because the theater is as it was originally, the seats are very close to each other. Seeing this wonderful place is well worth any drawbacks.

Watched Bladerunner 2 here on screen 2. Nothing special about the smaller screen room except that you can hear the sound from the neighbouring screen in quiet spells which is pretty distracting. If you see a fim here and want to take in the art deco aspect you need to go for the big screen not the lesser screens
