Magnificent Palazzo Spada in the Regola district of Rome is a shining example of Baroque architecture in Rome. The sculptures, vignettes and bad-reliefs of the facade are remarkably elaborate. rich and elegant.

The unique feature of the palace is Francesco Borromini’s forced perspective optical illusion in the arcades of the courtyard. One more example of Borromini’s immortal genius.

The palazzo is home to the Galleria Spada, the Cardinal Spada's collection of remarkable masterpieces of art.

Highly recommend visiting this real gem away from tourist crowds.

Charming trompe l'oeil view created by Borromini. Small galleries with some good paintings but the Prospetivva is the main attraction.

This is a place where you can find a lot of interesting thinks. The Italian Consiglio di Stato is the court that judge about admistatives questions and is located in a part of this palace that was the house of Cardinale Spada. A Lot of portrait in the gallery but the best : on Tiziano, some Guido Reni .
The originals marble carvings are incredible, all're made in the I or II century b.c., and some Borromini marble statue are a big expression of art in Rome since 2000 years.
The joke at the end is a perpestive illusion about columns of Borromini and it's incredible and you have to see. The prize to enter in this place is only 5 euros but you can have free during the first Sunday of the month

The art here is salon-like, that is piled on top of the other all the way to the ceiling. There are a few hidden gems but the real draw of this place is Borromini's experiment with forced perspective in the courtyard. This can of course be seen from outside the Palazzo if you don't feel like paying to go in. It's only 2.50 euros with Roma Pass concession.

Palazzo Spada is renovated, by F. Borromini, nice old building in centro storico of Rome, around a nice garden with orange trees; the palace was bought from the cardinal Bernadino Spada in 1632; to see his painting portrait and a lot of very nice paintings and statues; The Palazzo Spada is the Roman headquarters for the Council of State; it is a must to visit;

This is a small, but interesting renaissance gallery housing a personal collection of art amassed by cardinals in the past. The palace is attractive and you visit 4 or 5 rooms on the first floor of this building. The collection of paintings is interesting but not outstanding. You also visit the garden and the highlight is the perspective painting by Borromini where he makes a relatively shallow arch appear much longer. When we were there one of the guides revealed the illusion by walking down the arched passage - when he reemerged it remained difficult to spot the illusion.

This palace is now government building and part of it is a gallery with a lot of paintings. The perspective of Borromini is the reason most of the people visit Palazzo Spada.
