My girlfriend and I did the Rome by Night Tour and we are 27 and 29 years old respectively. This was our first segway tour so we were not really sure what to expect. It didn't take long to get the hang of riding a segway though, and Max our tour guide made sure we were all comfortable on the segway and the training was simple, straight forward and efficient. I wouldn't be worried about riding a segway as Max told us how he once had a customer that went on the tour for her 80th Birthday and had no problems.
The tour was 79 euros and was 3.5 hours long and I definitely would recommend the Rome by Night Tour as Rome was such a pleasure to explore during the night. It was a little cold during the time we went, so it might be advisable to dress up a little warmer if you go on a cold day. Also a side note, we were worried that weather forecasts were saying there was a chance of rain, but it didn't. But if it did, I believe that they did provide ponchos. We were in a small group of 4 which was quite nice. It was a Friday night and it was very peaceful, I can imagine it being a bit harder to manoeuvre the segway at some of the more busier times. You spend a large majority on pedestrian routes so there is not much worry of traffic and feel very safe during the tour.
The actual tour was very well thought out. The highlight of the tour would of course be the Colosseum which is gorgeously lit up at night and ideal for a little night photography. I should also note that I wore my camera bag while on the segway tour without any problems, but Max also offered to carry my camera bag while riding the segway if I did have any problems so that was reassuring. There is also a small bag in front of the segway where you can put some of your belongings if you don't want to leave them behind at the office and a bottle of water is supplied in the bag too. There is also a toilet at the office if you need to go before or after the tour. Another highlight of the tour was Campidoglio (Rome's Capitol Hill) where you get beautiful views of the city at night in such a serene atmosphere. There were also quite a few small stops we made during the tour where Max would have a lot of interesting facts and stories and so we found the tour to be quite educational too.
Just like to mention a little about our tour guide Max, who was very friendly while remaining professional. My girlfriend also mentioned she was cold and he offered to lend her a jacket that we could return the next day so Rex Tours were very accommodating. We had a little bit of free time after the tour too so Max kindly spent some of his free time to recommend us a few more attractions, restaurants and cafes we could go to for the rest of our time in Rome.
In conclusion, it was definitely the highlight of our short time in Rome and I highly recommend it and would certainly do a day tour next time we are back in Rome.
