Easy to find cable car, smooth ride up the mountain. Just yet another beautiful Italian church at the top. They get a bit boring once you've been in your 70th one! Great views from the top. Warning ahead: if you're going to walk back down the mountain there is a path but it's very steep in places. Best to have on walking shoes. I got down in about 90mins. If you like lizards and snakes it's the walk for you!

Approx 10 minutes walk from Rapallo train station you will find the entrance to the funicular. It’s a magical ride for some of the most beautiful views you’ll see.
There is a bar / restaurant at the top.

By far the best views over Rapallo. There are a few places to eat and drink once you get to the top so make sure you check the time tables to allow enough time to do this

We took the ride which cost us €8 each. We were originally going to just ride up and back because we had limited time, but as we headed up near lunchtime (it closed from 1230-1400) we decided to eat at the top.
The first restaurant looked like it had great views, but the one further up had even better ones!
The menu was all in the waiter's head, seemingly based in what they could get in fresh.
I'll write a review on the place we ate too.
Back to the cable car, you got a great view of the harbours at Rapallo and Santa Margherita and Portofino in the distance, but with all cable car rides, you need a little head for heights! Passing the first pylon on the way up made my stomach turn a little!
The cars ran until 17.30, and seemed to be popular with walkers and mountain bikers.
Us, we drank beer. Didn't fancy the walk. But it was a nice place to sit.

What a way to see some stunning Riviera Views. We went on a cold December morning with the sun shining and incredible views of Sardegna, the whole riviera and the snow in the mountains in the back. Cute cable car that fits about 10 people, make sure to check the times before you set off as you might end up waiting a long time. Well worth the experience.!

I love riding cable cars therefore even though we were staying in Genoa, we visited Rapallo by train just so I could have my kick that is riding a cable car. Infront of the Rapallo train station, they have put a mini cable car on the roundabout. It just shows that this is a major attraction in this place. Through reading previous reviews in Trip Advisor, I learned about the siesta or lunch break which is from 12 to 2:30 pm. When we arrived there (Easter week), at 3:30 pm, they still had siesta. Anyway, we were told that they will run the cable car in 10 min.
From the train station of Rapallo, walk to the left and just follow that road til you see a big banner which says Funivia Rapallo-Montallegro. Or just people the direction of the funivia.
Wonderful ride, get ready with your camera. It is during the ride that you could get nice views of the sea and Rapallo's shoreline. At the top, the trees have covered the area below. But you could get a view if you walk farther to the Church of Montallegro. This cable car has no viewing point unlike in Argegno.
The last cable car from the mountain goes down at 5:30 pm. If ever you missed it, it is possible to walk downhill not through bushes but on cemented stairs which they have made.
While waiting for the cable car, I had a snacks on the little kiosk close to the cable car station. I have tasted one of the most delicious cakes ever. I was still finishing my first cake and I had to tell the lady managing the kiosk that I want one more.

A round trip costs 8€. The trip takes about 10 minutes, at the perfect speed to take pictures and also enjoy the views. It goes to a really great height but the trip is calm and comfortable. At the top you can find Monteallegro's sanctuary and a little nice bar. Views from the funicular and the sanctuary are very beautiful. Really worth it and also perfect for chidren.

Me and my Grandfather wanted to have a ride on the cable car. At first site it seemed from the centre of Rapallo that the cable cars were not running.
We took a drive to the Rapallo cable car station to check it out and was told that it only runs every 30 minutes in the low season, hence why we hadn't seen the carriages moving up the hill from Rapallo town centre!
The ride up on the cable car was very enjoyable and there were lots of opportunities for taking photos of Rapallo from above and the nice houses and woodland that you pass on the way up.
Once at the top there are several little cafes where one can have a sit down with a drink and light snack, ice cream or both.
The view from the cable car is truely amazing, breathtaking indeed.
After about an twi hours of exploring and taking lots of photographs followed by a drink and ice cream at the cable car station cafe we took the next available cable cable car back down the hill towards Rapallo.
Note that whilst we visted during the first week of October there was no ride back down between 1pm and 2pm and the bus back to Rapallo also is out of action during these times so make sure you plan your visit accordingly so that you dont get trapped up the top for an hour like we did with nothing to do!
I would not recommend this attraction for anybody who is even the smallest bit scared of big heights!

The views are amazing. The ride takes about 7 minutes and is fun. Ticket cost Euro 8 per adult and Eur 6 per child. Definitely recommended if you are in Rapallo. There is a hotel on top with a Terrace bar and a lovely church.

First of all...loved Rapallo and want to return...so easy to explore the Cinque Terre region via train/boat/foot. On La Funivia, really enjoyed the hiking trails at the top and the great views! Many thanks to all the other reviews who mentioned the problems with the hike back as I was about to suggest this to my husband (recovering from knee problem + me having had spinal surgery a Yr earlier) as one review said “a pleasant half hour walk back”; another said it took her 2 hours and muscles were so sore for days afterwards...trying to avoid a fall we suppose. Others indicated similar problems. So my advice would be to maybe do it if you young and fit, but think twice if you’re older. Who wants to spoil a holiday with an injury especially when so far from home like us + insurance often won’t cover unreasonable risks/pre-existing conditions despite your age. On a more positive note - we highly recommend it...perhaps early on in your stay as we heard it closed for a duration due to maintenance etc. very shortly after we left. So much in Rapallo and surrounds to see, do, learn, eat!...and such easy access via rail too, we hope to return 1 year soon!

Meglio parcheggiare vicino alla stazione ferroviaria. Poi ci sono 10 minuti a piedi. C’ è anche un parcheggio vicino alla stazione di partenza della funivia, ma per poche macchine.
