The area
Neighborhood: Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

In our opinion this bridge has the best views of the canal, particularly the classic view you will have seen in numerous paintings with the Basilica dome in the background over the canal. So glad we were passing by this bridge as we otherwise might have missed it and didn't realise how spectacular the view was. Can imagine it being a really dramatic view at sunrise or sunset.

It is a wooden bridge one of only four bridges to span the Grand Canal in Venice. It crosses near the southern end of the canal, links the sestieri of Dorsoduro and San Marco. One can see a handful of love padlocks attached to the metal hand rails on the bridge. The bridge is located next to the Accademia vaporetto station.

This bridge is at the bottom of the meandering backward "S" (canal) and offers a way to get from the San Marco district to the Dorsoduro. Just about at this point, the canal ends and opens up into the larger, bigger waters of Canale dell Giudecca and the Canale de San Marco. It is also the bridge that takes visitors to the Galleria dell Accademia.

There is also a vaporetto stop here.

This very nice bridge was built on 1933 pending the construction of the stone bridge designed by the architect Duilio Torres never done.
In 1986 many deteriorated wooden structures were replaced by iron arches .

The existing wooden bridge was erected in 1934 according to the project of Eugenio Miozzi as a temporary structure. Subsequently, a project was developed for a stone bridge, similar in style to the buildings surrounding it, but the Academy Bridge has retained its wooden structure to this day.

One of few wooden bridges in Venice, this one spanning the Grand Canal to link San Marco and Dorsoduro. Dating from 1933 but renovated several times, it was named after the Accademia de Belli Arti, which used to be nearby.

This is a lovely and central bridge, which gets far less crowds than the famous Rialto bridge.
The view from the bridge is wonderful

One of the 2 bridges across the Grand Canal, this bridge provides superb views over the Grand canal. Ideal for taking breathtaking photos of the Venice skyline.

The bridge itself is very nice to walk on. The best part is the view of Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute and Canal Grande during sunset. You have to make a stop here just for the picture. While you are here, take a walk to water front down south.

Disappointing to find this bridge completely obscured by boarding and therefore with no views down the canal. Fortunately they have installed temporary access so at least we did not have to endure a massive detour or expensive alternative crossing.
