Orto Botanico is a lovely, cool botanical garden in the city of Cagliari. It is landscaped down the hillside, and offers many different planting areas from giant pine trees to medicinal plants. There are views of the Roman Amphitheatre at the back of the garden, and you can also walk inside the giant Roman Cisterns dug into the mountainside, at the back of the site. It was lovely a quiet when we went off-peak, and very calm and relaxing. Take a picnic, as there was no cafe open inside, although they allow you to leave and return the same day to go to an outside cafe. They also allow you to scan a Q code on you mobile as a map of the site.

We spent a few hours in this beautiful botanical garden. It was good sunny weather in February and we walked around the garden. There was almost without visitors, so it was a quiet, relaxing time for us. We saw lots of cacti, palm trees and other tropical plants. We enjoyed it.

Tropical plants in a Garden which was built and composed from 1866-1948. Now you can see about 2000 species.

The gardens with caves, waterworks and hide-aways is situated near Villa di Tigellio and the Amfitheatre and also has it's own Roman cisterns. There's a botanical museum, but you can also just relax, make it the moment in your visit of the town where you can breathe, take in the wonderful nature surrounding you, enjoy the peace and quiet, watch the fishes and turtles swim, maybe have some lunch on a bench....

Botanical garden could be very nice, but sadly is obviously not kept. Plants are growing on their own and label/information is mostly missing. Not to mention that the place is full of very agressive mosquitoes. Entrance is 4€ with 50% discount if you visit some other places.

There wasn’t a great deal to see in Cagliari so we visited here. It was better than I expected and we spent an enjoyable hour there. The tunnels were a surprise - quite spooky.
We also visited the Roman amphitheatre round the corner - also worth a visit.

I love Botanical Gardens, but especially when they're tucked away close to the centre like this one. It's great to leave a busy city centre and get a couple of hours of peace and quiet.

This one has possibly one of the widest collections I've seen, with species from all over the world and areas dedicated to each sort of plant. There's lots to see, so you can spend hours here if you want to study each one. It's also great for a walk if you just enjoy looking.

There are many opportunities to spot lizards and other wildlife.

Obviously lots of open areas - so be careful if it's a hot day!

I particularly enjoyed the palm and succulent collections at the gardens. These were on one side, uphill a little - nobody seemed to go up there, so I had them to myself. There is also an old Roman water cistern you can go inside via a passage carved from the rock.

Although we were glad we did this it no Kew Gardens and were a little disappointed. Maybe it depends on what time of the year you visit.

I'd envisaged a couple of hours greenery, possibly sitting with a book. After paying €4 and collecting plan and plant list I made my way into a rather grey garden. But there were interesting plants to see. However halfway through I was attacked by voracious mosquitoes biting through my clothing. I moved away from the water and into the sun but to no avail - they followed. I left in a hurry.
