Beautiful spot in Cortona. Cortona is a perfect town in Italy for a vacation short or long. It is a perfect location for day trips to other towns and cities. It is vibrant with good restaurants and shops.

Still worth the visit

Cortona Cathedral, dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, was built at the remains of the ancient Roman temple in the 11th century. Little is left of its original Romanesque character, because of the several renovations and refurbishments. Although most of its treasures today lies in the Museo Diocesano, the church is worth visiting, for several canvases made by Berettini and disciples of Signorelli.

Enjoy the ride to the top, a town somewhat isolated. The families live here forever. Our local guide’s relative painted the ceiling of the Cathedral. They basically worship St. Margaret most of all. The interior of the Cathedral is a usual beautiful sanctuary.

Very serene and stunning. The blue roof with the stars and the stripped walls are in great contrast to the incredible artwork and alters. Very special

A Vew Worth Seeking - A Tuscan Jewel
2016. okt. • Baráti
The winding drive upward to the Tuscan hilltown of Cortona can sometimes be breathtaking - but it is always beautiful. The "home town" of the famous Catholic Saint Margaret of Cortona, whose statue will be found after you have fully ascended to the Piazza of the Duomo, Cortona is an explorer's dream - many short and enclosed courts and so much practical use of Etruscan burial sculpture. Most of it found during the digging of some of the foundations of the oldest dwellings in the town. This is a ;laid-back' town, with tourists drawn by the Frances Mays book & film, Under the Tuscan Sun. Personally, I was far more impressed by Hannibal's defeat of a Roman Legion on the not too distant shore of Lake Trasimeno, but if you are in the Umbria/Tuscan border area, you would be remiss to not visit Cortona. Many pleasant restaurants and cafes to give your hill walking legs and feet a break. Explore and enjoy a Tuscan town that has not been too spoiled by it's fame.

I went in Cortona to meet Glenda, the best wedding planner I could ever meet. She planned our wedding in Edinburgh and this was the best thing we did. Glenda is amazing, fast, polite and sweet! She understood what we needed and she made her best to realize our dreams! She plans weddings where you want! In that occasion we visited the Duomo and that visit let us without words... stunning building!

Beautiful church

We have enjoyed visiting Cortona for the past 16 years based on the book Under the Tuscan which inspired us to visit this city. Their Duomo is small but beautiful inside and very well preserved. Lots of light for taking pictures. Highly recommend visiting when you are in this classic walled city on a hill in Tuscany.
