Cool comics museum but feels incomplete
This review is from the perspective of someone who loves comics but is more familiar with American and British comics rather than Belgian and French comics (although I do enjoy and am interested in all types of comics). The idea of having a museum like this is great. The building itself is nice and I loved the early parts of the museum which explained the evolution of comics from ancient times to American newspaper strips a century ago to the comics of today. The Marsupilami section was good fun, especially the puzzle you could put together in two different ways. My main criticism of the museum is that other than a section about Les Schtroumpfs / The Smurfs, there is very little about famous Franco-Belgian comics such as Tintin, Lucky Luck, Valerian, Asterix, Blacksad, Iznogoud, Michel Vaillant, Natacha etc. The store downstairs is happy to sell comics and merchandise based on such titles (so they are obviously relevant) but there is very little in the actual museum about them. Also, they use caricatures of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman on the signs showing where the toilets are but otherwise totally ignore modern US comics. Maybe a small section acknowledging them (and perhaps showcasing some examples of European influences on them) would be a great addition. All in all, an enjoyable way to spend an hour or so in Brussels but there is potential for improvement. This is more a 3.5 star review but I bumped it up to 4 stars because, as I said, I love comics and there aren't enough museums dedicated to them.

Probably great for Smurfs and TinTin fans
There seems to be a lot of confusion between this museum and what is called 'Comics Museum of Brussels' on Google Maps and other tourist resources. So, if you're after the latter, it's not the one. It is worth a visit if you're really into that specific set of Belgian origin comics like TinTin, Smurfs etc., but otherwise there's not much to it.

A Must See place in Brussels
It was really fun if you like comics. I’m a fan of Tintin and Smurfs and so this place gives me the history. Other comics are fun too as you see them and try to see messages conveyed. There’s also a nice restaurant here so I went for lunch then continue my viewing and before leaving had tea of waffles and ice cream!

    Interesting visit for the morning
Good visit for a couple of hours. Lots of focus on Belgian and European comics (I think zero mention of American superheroes). Absolutely fascinating sections on how comics are written formatted, drawn and published. My friend and I spent ages laughing in the Boerke section. Shame there was no section dedicated to Tintin, but at least it was available in the shop. The building itself is gorgeous and I will be seeking out comic recommendations from the museum.

    Fun museum and great bookstore
I thought this museum was interesting. There's not really anything on Tintin (I think there's a Herge museum outside the city), but interesting exhibits on the Smurfs, the history of comics and how comics are made. I enjoyed it. The building is beautiful and there is a great bookstore. It's free to go in the first floor and see the building and go to the bookstore. The museum is on the top two floors.

    Great interesting experience.
The comic art museum is a museum held in Brussels that showcases many different comics style arts including the formation of the Smurfs. I really enjoyed the Smurfs section which included the original formation of the animated Smurfs and it also presented information about the animated Smurf movies in the USA. It was enjoyable to see the history of the Smurfs and the little models of them were really cute to look at. I really liked the idea of having different artists being separated into different sections which allowed a smoother experience of viewing. I also loved that they exhibited the development of creating comics and animation while also displaying the history of some areas. The artwork was amazing. It allowed me to learn a lot more about animation and comics. I found the general experience very interesting and important to the development of my knowledge of animation and art.

Interesting exhibit about the history of comics
This was an interesting place. Many neat exhibits and a great gift shop. I was running late and didn't get to spend as much time there as I would have liked so make sure you get there and not feel rushed. I posted three photos from the museum and they allow you to take photos. The fact that Monks at one time used what is similar to today's comic format was especially interesting.

I took my children (ages 7 and 5) to the Comic Strip Museum expecting to see family-friendly exhibits about Tintin, Asterix and Obelix. Unfortunately, the Asterix and Obelix exhibition was closed for cleaning. The only sign on Tintin was a sculpture at the entrance, most likely because there is a dedicated Herge museum about 30-45 minutes outside of Brussels. My children were bored by the proofs (original drawings and watercolours), in all likelihood because they are unfamiliar with the lesser lights of the Belgian cartoon scene, many of whom are happen to be extraordinarily talented. The captions are in Flemish, French and English, but not in other major European languages such as German, Spanish, Italian or Russian. Another misstep on the part of the curators is that the glass cases enclosing the drawings are too high for a 5-6 year child to see them without being lifted by a parent. There is also too little interaction, too few videos to keep a small child's interest. My children spent about 1.5 hours in the shop, which has an encyclopaedic collection of comics for sale. The ticket cost was €13.50 but we parted with another €35 for three books. Again, almost all books in the shop are in French. One would think that a major tourist draw such as this, in the heart of Brussels, would also sell books in other languages.

Interesting museum with lots to see. The museum exhibits are on three levels with a gift shop and brasserie on the ground floor. Information is provided in English, French and Dutch. The comic strips are in French though.

One can visit this museum just to see the building as much as one would go for the content. The building was designed by Victor Horta, of Art Nouveau fame, and it's quite impressive.

Anyway, the museum is pretty cool. Learn about how comics are developed, from the idea, to the drawing, coloring, printing, etc. There are many comics on display showing the various stages of development. During my visit, there were a few large exhibitions showcasing a few comics by some prominent artists.

Signs in English as well French and Flemish (Dutch).

Excellent photo opportunities with some of the large items on display.

Decent sized gift shop and bathrooms on site.

Recommended.

Amazing museum, which superseded my expectations; apart the typical history of comics from the paleolithic to Yellow Kid and the various techniques, the icing on the cake was the Louvre exposition: the amount of the pieces of art produced but dozens of authors is mind blobbing. Forget the 9th art, we are talking about Art. Really amazing. Per se, the museum if quite small, so in one hour you can easily see everything; the show is quite interesting and has an amazing collection of graphic novels (and manga), pity it's all in French.

I felt misled and disappointed by this museum as there were no Tintin exhibits or art at all inside. We came to Brussels specifically to see as many Tintin related sights as possible, and this museum was supposed to be a highlight. It was misleading because the logo of the museum is Tintin’s hair, and they sell every volume and trinket in the gift shop. When you walk in there are life size Tintin figures in their space suits and the rocket ship. We were excited to see the art and nerd-out, and happily paid the 30 euros for two adults and one child. We walked all around the museum and there wasn’t any Herge art at all! We asked the man working at the ticket booth and he said the Tintin exhibit was sold to another museum 40 minutes south of Brussels. Wah wah.

This was one of my favorite experiences in Brussels where comic books are art and culture. I came away with a greater appreciation of the art form and its history. Come and admire the artistry. And set in a gorgeous old iron and glass fantasy.

Overpriced and boring . Paid 37 euros for family of 5 - 2 adults and 3 kids . There is nothing in there . A few smurfs images and one good cartoon theatre showing a few short clips . But nothing else . No Tin tin or Tom and Jerry or anything else other than some obscure Belgian cartoon images . Total waste of time and money . Feel like we have been ripped off price wise . Do not bother with this place . Massive disappointment . Wish we had done something else as was our last day on trip to Brussels . I would maybe have accepted it if it was 5 euros or something like that to enter , but the fact it was so overpriced makes me more angry . They conned us saying it was a comic museum .

A great idea but missing the main Belgian protagonists. No Herge or Tintin anywhere in the whole place (apart from the gift shop). After navigating the whole place I asked a member of staff only to be told that ‘there isn’t any’. He seemed embarrassed by this when all publicity seems to heavily lean toward this main character. What a disappointment and waste of money.

I pretty much grew up on Belgian comics and was disappointed that the art of some of the most important Belgian comics artists like Hergé, Franquin, and Morris wasn’t even represented in this rather hap-hazard display of mostly cheap reproduction panels..
Had hoped to see at least some Tintin artwork.

Instead they displayed the work of unknown contemporary comics artists and an exhibition about Korean (!) comics… totally irrelevant to the the rich abs illustrious history of this major Belgian art form.
Won’t be back.

The building itself (art nouveau) is far more interesting than its tired looking ans unimaginative exhibits.

First, this is NOT for Tin-Tin (there is a separate Herge museum a bit outside the city center - do that for Tin-Tin). What there is is an interesting introduction to the history of comic strips and some detailed discussions of the creative process. This is then followed by a floor of exhibits of particular artists or collections, which is thus more hit and miss depending upon whether you like the content being displayed at the time of your visit (ours not so great as we are not huge fans of manga).
