Can't beat this beach only 40-50 minutes from Lisbon by train/Uber (less time if you drive). It's just far enough to avoid huge crowds in a heat wave (we went on a 95F+ day), and it is a dramatic, beautiful beach with great waves and small waves alike, pristine sand. Only downside is there are no public restrooms (contrary to what some beach review sites say). Highly recommend!

This beach is very unpredictable because the weather is also unpredictable. We can have wind and a sea with a lot of swell in the morning and in the afternoon it is phenomenally hot and the sea is calm. Here is where I feel the Atlantic Ocean and where I feel zen with Nature.🌊⛱️☀️

If you don't surf, there is not much you can do, unless you want sand all over you. It's very windy and the sand stings your skin all over your body. It's not worth it and definitely won't return here. It offers a great view when going down to the beach, but that's about it.

The scene is so breath taking, large waves, people parasailing and walking along the beach on the walking path. Nice place to stop and have a cup of coffee and lite lunch. Watch a beautiful sunset over the beach with a glass of wine.

We made a quick stop here after visiting Sintra and the beach seemed really nice. It is popular mostly for surfing as it can get quite windy here. Not sure if it would be as enjoyable for swimming given the wind, but the views were quite nice and relaxing.

I hate crowds. Don’t go here. I want it to myself. There are sea monsters and giant squids that will grab random people and eat them. Please stay away.

This is one of the best beaches of Portugal! The beach is very big, surrounded by nature, well connected by public transport and you can surf as well! Right there at the beach you have the possibility to rent the surfing equipment and even to have a surfing lesson. Near the beach there is also a restaurant, a hotel and a bar with swimming pool. The bar is pretty expensive in comparison with the average prices in Portugal, but it has an amazing view over the Ocean!

We took a chance on a random recommendation and paid for a 1/2 hour taxi ride from Cascais to Praia do Guincho. We weren't dissapointed. Sunset here on the last day of a month long Europe trip was amazing. It's the type of beach where you can walk out really far and only be waist high. Wind surfers were everywhere, and the sandy beach was huge. If you're in/near Lisbon, then you've got to check out Cascais, and this beach.

Stayed in Cascais and surfed here for a few days. Really great cycle out from Cascais (about 8km I think). Pristine beach and water with some great surfing schools. Suggest waiting until after surfing to sample the Caipirinhas (lethal but delicious).
Our second favourite beach in the region (the other, Praia da Adraga definitely wouldn't be suitable for surfing though!)

This is a truly amazing beach. The waves can be quite powerful though. There are a few nice cafes along this part of the coast and you can take a walk on the board walk in the dunes next to the beach. People with young children will enjoy one of the many small beaches between Carcavelos and Cascais more as the sea is more calm and safe

On our drive to Fort do Guincho this August 12, we decided to follow your route through Sintra. It seems you took the route through the Sintra-Cascias Park reserve there... ? Do you have any advice? If you can share anymore information about sites along the way, we are interested shops, sites, culture, food, music, etc! Thank you so much!

Hello,
I went with my school, went to Sintra Palace which was absolutely amazing to say the least and so many restaurants there to choose from you will be spoilt for choice. Bear in mind there are some queues for certain places like the Palace or the gardens. There is also a puppet show for kids in the Palace, my students loved it! And a Shakespeare show too in the same place which was very funny.
On the way back we stopped at the famous bakery in Belem called Pasteis de Belem for their famous Pastel de nata, please try! and then we went to the local restaurant O Prado, brilliant and so cheap. Seafood is their speciality and snails! Honestly you need to go there because not only is the price cheap but for the same food elsewhere i.e tourist restaurant, the price is VERY expensive.
We stayed in Cascais for 7 days, the town is beautiful, loads of lovely restaurants, traditional bars and the beach is perfect or paddle boarding and going on small boat cruises.
We also went hiking, via the most western point of Europe which is in Cabo de roca, the trails there are really good although I would get maybe a guide as the one we went on, was a little tricky for my students! Also for shopping for food, go to Jumbo, its huge and cheap especially the White Port, please make sure you buy this, it is amazing!
We went on a boat trip to see the dolphins, and wow it was amazing to see them in their natural habitat. The food on the boat was first class as well getting to swim in the water too. SaboArrabida was the boats name.
We also went surfing at the main beach called Guincho beach, brilliant beach for kids, the waves are awesome but cold!
I love Portugal! Visit the statue of Christ too, if not only for the views!
Hope I have helped a little!

Tem banheiros na orla? Como funcionam? Is there toilets on border?

Don't know, but next to Guincho Beach (only a short walk) is Cresmina Beach. There are public toilets; opposite the surfboard lofts. You have to pay a small amount for the (cleaning)service (€ 0,50).

what's the best way to go there from Lisbon?

Sorry I didn't see your question until now. If you have no car then I would get the train from Cais de sodre station to caiscais , and then get a taxi. Taxi should be around 12 euro and the train is about 3 or 4 euro I think. Train takes 40 mins and taxi will take about 15.

Ciao a tutti!
Potete per favore dirmi se la spiaggia è collegata da mezzi pubblici? Come posso raggiungerla?
Grazie!

Ho chiesto lo stesso ma ho appena letto che c'è un treno per cascais da lisbona. e penso che da lì poi sia facile.

You have a Michelin starred restaurant called Furna do Guincho but we didn't eat there. Any restaurant by the seaside in Cascais offers excellent sea food.
At Praia do Guincho we liked the Bar do Guincho where they have excellent hamburgers and a surprising fish kebab. But i LOVED their Pica-pau meat dish!
you can see their meals on their website bardoguincho.pt

In particular, try the restaurant at Estalagem do Forte Muchaxo or Fortelza do Guincho. This latter place has the Michelin star, but for lunch is not OTT
