    Must do with family
Great place to get a sensational view of Cascais water front. This is the second time we’ve come with small kids and they really enjoy going down the rocks and the cool breeze. Make sure to wear closed toe shoes for the little ones

    Dramatic waves
This is very close to the centre of Cascais and if you are in the area you must visit. I visited in November in a relatively calm day but the experience was excellent. The whole area consists of high cliffs with the large waves breaking against them - Great for photographs. To top it all however you have to visit Boca do Inferno which is a cliff arch where the waves break through creating conditions like a huge washing machine. Sometimes the best things in life are free and this is among the best that nature throws at you. I loved it.

    Spectacular more than Hellish
After leaving Sintra our tour headed west reaching Portugal’s Atlantic coastline before following it south towards the estuary of the Tagus River. Just before the river reaches the ocean, we came across a natural wonder that has become a local attraction, the Boca Do Inferno or Hell Mouth. Along this part of the coast there are either long beaches or massive cliffs that the waves crash against. At this point they have over the centuries carved out a deep chasm which the water enters and recedes from in an invigorating show. Several viewing platforms and walkways allow one to get fairly close to the chasm in relative safety. As we were on a bus tour, we only made a brief stop here, but it was sufficient to thoroughly enjoy this natural wonder. As an added bonus we arrived at sunset and the always spectacular sunsets in this area made a great backdrop. The Boca Do Inferno is easy to reach from Lisbon along the costal highway that runs west along the north bank of the Tagus Estuary towards the costal resort towns of Estoril and Cascais. There is ample free parking on the site, as well as restrooms and a small souvenir shop and snack bar.

This is a very interesting geological formation and well worth a visit. Parking is ample, and after a short walk you will be treated to raging wave action moving through a small channel into a large open chasm. I enjoy seeing it every time I visit Portugal, and it is a great place to take visiting friends.

What a shocking sight when you first lay my eyes on this sea cave. My imagination took me to a inferno world. As the waves crashing into the cave, sun shaken broke through the clouds form a shimmering surface

This is an amazing formation and must be wonderful when the tide is high and the winds strong. Unfortunately when we visited all we saw were waves coming into to cove. Still an interesting spot with a good view of the cliffs rising out of the sea.

Actually, it's the cliffs nearby that I'm reviewing, the site itself is very cordoned off. This is a spectacular area, and well worth visiting. Very close by, there are amazing rocks to sit on and have a picnic. But, please, do not stand or sit on wet rocks. It may look peaceful enough work the odd high spray, but every 20 minutes or so there is a sudden almighty wave that is well and truly enough to wash someone away. The reason why the area is so-named.

I spent a couple of hours enjoying a picnic there before it got too stressful to watch...!

Got dropped off here by an Uber. Nice spot for pictures by the ocean. There are cafes, shops and restaurants around. The restaurant Mar do Inferno was highly recommended but we weren’t hungry enough. We opted to grab gelados at one of the cafes and walked down the coast towards downtown Cascais. Its a nice walk on a nice day.

It is great to visit anytime, but if you manage to visit it at high tide and shaken waters, best. It is usual in winter. But even in summer may be impressive. The noise of the waves inside of the mouth is awesome. That is why I call it hell's throat and not hell's mouth..

First of all, it can be quite crowded. Depends when you are going there. I have been there many times and quite many times, it was not crowded at all.
You will not be disappointed even if it´s crowded because the view is so amazing.

I have been there in October, January, February and March. Best time? Doesn't matter. All of the times have been great.

I walked there and it was about 30 min for the city centre. Walking there you go by the yacht club. (If you want to go faster then take a bike;) Easy to rent it.

When to visit?
The best time is sunset. Go early. Sit down. Enjoy the view. Feel the breeze.

Spectacular views and amazing location. A bit windy. Visited by a lots of people therefore quite crowded, despite pandemic. In the area possibility to dine, eat ice cream or buy some souvenirs on local market.

Make sure to get there at least 30 minutes before sunset to find a great nook or spot to relax and start taking photos. It's really an incredible vista. Try also to visit when the tide is high and the waves are dynamic - sometimes in the morning the colors are really beautiful as well in the Boca itself.
