Sandemans - Sintra tour
Great tour!

Our tour guide was Fred. He was great, we found him to be very knowledgable about the history, friendly with everyone he encountered, and super passionate about what he does. We loved that he explained a lot when speaking about the history of the city and the palace, and made it easy to understand using comparisons of today to explain. For the Palace, we thought it was ok, definitely not what we were expecting. However, Fred did explain about the Palacio de Pena and how to get there, since it was not included in this tour. We traveled there with a person we met on the tour and we highly recommend going there if you have the opportunity to do so. It is absolutely beautiful at sunset. We did not go inside, all the magic is on the grounds. We took an Uber; 20 minutes to get there and 6 minutes back to the train station.

Sandemans - Belem Tour
Nice sunset tour!

Our tour guide was Rita. She did a good job explaining the history of the area, which is the main reason why we enjoy taking tours. We enjoyed our time here. Please note: The two main reasons why alot of people take this tour is for visiting the original location for the Pasteis de Nata and for the Belem Tower. Now, that being said, if your not interested in the Pasteis then it is pretty easy to get to Belem to see the tower without having to be on a tour, just a cost of the train ticket. But if you are, definitely consider the tour because the guide was able to bypass the extra long line into the cafe to get the pasteis and just bought them in bulk. Otherwise you'll be the one standing in that long line waiting for awhile. We walked to the tower and caught the beautiful sunset. Highly recommend going at that time. There wasn't alot of people around which was surprising. So go spend some time there! Before the tower, we did stop at the monastery, and huge white building, and spent 10 minutes walking around. It was beautiful!

We spent our first afternoon in Lisbon with Ines for a free walking tour that covered Bairre Alto, Chiado, and a bit of Alfama. Ines was well informed about the history, culture, architecture, politics, food, and neighborhoods of Lisbon. She conveyed valuable insights to us in a manner that was both highly informative, useful, and entertaining. We visited many little neighborhoods, traveled off the beaten path, and received useful suggestions about things to see, do, and eat. Ines also provided tips about how things work in Lisbon that have been extremely helpful to us in navigating the city. I could not recommend her more highly. We also took a NewEurope paid tour of Alfama which we did not enjoy nearly as much as our tour with Ines. Thanks for a great day!

I have regularly used this company for tours in many capital cities in Europe.
We booked a free tour and had a fantastic guide called Fred take us around most of Central Lisbon and he's probably the best tour guide I've had!! Very engaging and the information was so interesting. We then decided to do the Alfama District tour that afternoon which was also just as good and I would reccommend that too.

The only negative was then booking the Pub Crawl which turned out to be different guides, quite unorganised and most people had left by the time we got to the last pub. I'm sure there are better bar crawls in Lisbon to book. HOWEVER I would suggest doing all the other tours.

I did a free walking tour today with Jaime. A bit tired from New Years revelries the night before (not my own) I almost skipped the tour. I am very glad I didn’t - Jaime took us through Lisbon to various significant sites, giving such an interesting and in depth explanation to each and the history of Lisbon. Despite New Years Day meaning the usual cafe was stopped, the company had found another cafe that I ended up going back to for a cheap lunch. It was also a small group which gave everyone a chance to ask Jaime questions as they came up. Overall, an engaging tour by a great guide

I did the free walking tour with Antonio as our guide.
It was super informative and exciting, the 2 1/2 hours passed within a blink. Antonio put a lot of effort in talking to everyone individually and in that way, could give us important and relevant advice for our personal trip.
I can only recommend doing this tour if you're new to the city. It gives you a quick overview and insight in the city and the city's history.

Jorge was our guide for our walking tour of Lisbon and we found him to be very engaging informative and entertaining. Jorge has a natural ability to hold his audience with funny and interesting stories about the history of Lisbon.. I'd highly recommend Jorge as a guide and will definitely do another one of his tours the next time we visit Lisbon.

My daughters and I had such a fun (and free!) walking tour of the city, that we signed up for the Alfama tour the next day.
The city tour was led by Rita. She is quite a colorful character and imparts her knowledge of her beautiful city with such charm. My kids, who would otherwise not be interested in any history, were fascinated and engaged.

Our Alfama tour was led by Jorge who is also a native. He led the group at a great pace and his stories and anecdotes of the Alfama were wonderful and interesting as well.

Thank you Rita and Jorge for giving us such a great memories of your beautiful Lisbon!

The 2.5 hours tour ended very good, we had such a good time discovering the historic city center. Rita the guide was so nice and bubbly, she made sure that we didn't get bored during the tour - she always put some humor every now and then to brighten up the mood. And personally i've learned a lot during the tour. This kind of walking tour with Rita is well recommended especially for english speakers and for a short visit in Lisbon coz it's really worth it. 😊

Free Walking Tour Review:
I booked online two weeks in advance and got a confirmation email right away that I was all set. Same day of the tour, in the morning I got another email reconfirming my tour at 4pm. I show up 15 mins before my tour, and I get the surprise from a tour guide standing there that all his other bookings for the tour got cancelled and that he would not be taking me on the tour. Only option he gave me was to come back again, which I could unfortunately not do.

This is very irresponsible and disrespectful for someone who planned his Porto visit with so much time in advance. I ended up not finding another tour alternative at such last minute and just saw a few of the city sites on my own.

The company never reached out to apologize or even notify me at least a few hours that the tour would get cancelled. With so many walking tour options in Porto, I recommend you stay away from Sandemans and book with a reliable company that values customers.

NOT RECOMMENDED!

My wife and I took the free walking tour in Lisbon. Joao - our tour guide was superb. He gave us a lot of interesting facts about Lisbon and also kept it fun:) The nice part was that he also went beyond and helped us with restaurant recommendations and local places to eat which we would have missed otherwise. He played this fun game with us when we were atop a certain tower - where he said we could point to any building in the city and he would tell us about it. And he didn't dissapoint!
Would definitely recommend this tour and if you get Joao, you're sure to have a great time.
