We availed of Lisbon Sightseeing Full Day Private Tour. There were 11 of us, 3 of whom had reduced mobility. Upon booking, we were contacted by Joao to explain what we
can and may not be able to do given our situation. He was very considerate. We were able to come up with an itinerary that suited our senior family members and at the same time, maximized the places that we wanted to see in Lisbon.

Joao, as expected from a tour guide, shared his knowledge about the different places in Lisbon. What sets him apart from the other guides is his passion. We all felt that Joao reallly put his heart into what he was doing. He also put in an extra mile for helping us with the wheelchairs and recommending a very dinner spot.

We can’t thank our guide (and now friend) John enough for such a great day on the wine tour. Pick up was punctual (actually a little early which was nice) and the van was really comfortable. John was warm, friendly, personable, and had an encyclopedic knowledge of wine, it’s history in the region, and the entire process from vine to bottle, which he was eager to share. The two wineries and one wine collaborative that were visited were all unique and added something different to the story of the Setúbal wine region. The tastings were generous and the wine delicious. The entire trip was very relaxed and nicely paced with time to really enjoy the beauty of the area at each stop, and of course the wine. We really appreciated John’s patience as he helped us pick out several bottles of wine to take home along the way. John even made some great restaurant recommendations for us and responded immediately to my texts later that evening when the name of a particular one was forgotten. That was much appreciated! Thanks again John.

We had a wonderful experience with TakingUThere! We were able to tell our guide Paulo where and what we wanted to see most and he did a great job. He was punctual, very efficient at getting us through the crowds, and full of helpful information and recommendations. He has a great love for Portugal and he is a wonderful guide. Highly recommend!

João was so responsive and accommodating in organizing day trips for us and being flexible as our plans changed and shifted due to our desires and COVID restrictions. We ultimately did three day trips with Rodrigo as our guide: Sintra/Cascais/Cabo da Roca; Setubal area, visiting three wineries and the artisan Azulejos de Azeitão; and Obidos/Mafra. Rod's love and passion for Portugal was so evident and he instilled a great mix of information, both historic and cultural. In addition, I injured myself during my stay in Portugal and João made sure that my final transfer to the airport helped and delivered me safely into the hands of airport personnel. I wouldn't hesitate to book with them again!

Muita obrigada!

I worked with Joao to book 2 customized tours. 1 to Sintra and Cascais, another to Azietao wineries with lunch and tile factory. He was absolutely wonderful. We had 30+ people to accommodate their preferences and he was able to leave all satisfied even when the employees at Peña Palace went on strike which was supposed to be a highlight of the Sintra tour. Joao was easy to work with, quick to respond, and organized. If you have a chance to book with him, you won’t regret it!

We were looking for a Jewish history tour while in Lisbon, and were lucky enough to be referred to Paulo Levy! Paulo gave us a wonderful, personalized Jewish heritage tour through the city. He is both knowledgeable and passionate about Judaic history in Lisbon, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. If you’re looking for a great experience, Paulo is the one to call!

Thank you for your feedback! Our Jewish Heritage Tour is made very special becasue of Paulo. He knows the history, locations and people to show you this part of Lisbon, and Portugal. As we don´t have much in terms of monuments and other physical things to show (all destroyed or hidden), Paulo brings things alive. And it´s also a good thing that he likes what he is doing... :-) Although we make our travellers walk a lot (well, it is a walking tour), it´s the only way to discover this part of our history. Regards, Joao Dickmann

We did a driving tour with Our guide Paulo Levy. He was such a pleasure to spend the day with. It was like having a relative here that showed us around for the day. If you are interested in the Jewish history of Portugal he is very interesting and knowledgeable for this as well. We really felt submerged into the local culture and went beyond just being standard tourists.

My husband and I traveled to Portugal for the first time last month, and we decided to take a few day trips outside of Lisbon. I am a certified sommelier, so the wine excursions certainly peaked my interest! This wine tour, led by Joao Dickmann, was fabulous!! We had a wonderful time from start to finish. Our day began with Mr. Dickmann picking us up in Lisbon in the morning and driving us to the Setubal region. His car was spacious, clean, and he provided lots of information about the region, the wines and his experience. We started at Quinta de Alcube, a small, family run winery that produces lovely, everyday wines. We tasted about 5 different wines at this winery, and had a tour of the fermentation room and barrel room. Mr. Dickmann was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We then went to Jose Maria de Fonseca, a much larger winery in the heart of Setubal. This tour was led by one of the winery's staff, Caterina, who was also very knowledgeable, patient and answered all of our questions. It was an impressive winery, both by it's history and size. We had plenty of time to sample wines, take pictures and enjoy the surroundings. The third stop on our tour was at a liqueur tasting, where we sampled a few of the region's liqueurs and sampled cheese and bread. I really enjoyed this part of the tour, despite reading some of the previous reviews from other travelers. I thought it was a nice change from the wines, and also was very informative and interesting to taste things that we normally wouldn't have tried. The liqueur tasting room also had a small shop, that sold jams, liqueurs and souvenirs. Mr. Dickmann then drove us back to Lisbon city center in the mid afternoon, which gave us plenty of time to enjoy the city. Both my husband and I had a really wonderful time with TakingUThere and 100% recommend it for future travelers.

Thank you very, very much for your "extensive" review!! ;-) We are trying to change things up a bit, by being able to offer an alternative to the liqueurs cellar. There is always something different that we try to offer our travelers... Warmest Regards and again, thank you, João Dickmann

The day we spent with Rod, touring the Setubal Wine Region was incredible. We especially loved the Alcube Vineyard. It was the smallest vineyard we visited, yet it was the best. The wines we sampled were very good, and the cheese made on site only added to enjoyment of the visit. We wish we could have stayed there longer. Rod was awesome as well. His knowledge and passion was evident, and he was a joy to be with throughout the day. We feel we made a true friend. As a side note, Rod took us to a small tile manufacturing company for a short side trip between vineyards. This was not only a surprise but brought us the opportunity to have a cherished memory of our time in Portugal. We have contacted them after returning home, and they are making us a custom scene of the region for our home. We are looking forward to its completion over the next few months. Our thanks to Rod and the team at Takinguthere for making our stay in Lisbon so wonderful.

First of all, thank you very much for your review! :-) Besides the wine in the region, one thing that is also good when travelling outside of Lisbon, is that you are still able to see "genuine" handcraft. Sometimes we bring travellers to this tile factory, in case they show an interest in history or local culture. It is still very traditionally done, and definitely not "touristy"... ;-) Warmest Regards, Joao Dickmann

Myself and two friends spent the day with Ricardo while he took us around the Setubal Region of Portugal and it was wonderful. We learned so much from Ricardo, not only about wine (which he knows A LOT about), but also about the region and country. He is so knowledgeable and passionate; he really made everything fun and exciting for us.

We toured two wineries and a liqueur producer, which were all great. Ricardo also made a special stop at tile factory for us!! We were able to see firsthand how those famous Portuguese tiles are made, and we were also able to do a little shopping while there.

Ricardo listened to our every request and made the day so much fun. He is so full of life and it is truly evident to everyone he is around how much he loves what he does.

Thank you for such an amazing day, Ricardo!!

Thank you very much for writing a review Tina! I´m happy that you licked your day with Ricardo´s company in our Setúbal Region. Making this type of a job, you need to like what you are doing. If not, it will not go to well... Hope to see you soon again in Portugal! Until then warmest regards, wish you a great Xmas and a great 2019! João Dickmann
