This was an amazing experience. Like travelling back in time. Everything was so well done and the participants weared clothes " medeval style" Food was great, served in clay plates and cups and a lot of great activities to participate in. Archery was great fun.

The ticket was less then 10 Euro and there were parades, concerts and lots of interesting things to buy. Be sure to try Hidromel ( The worlds oldest manmade alcoholic beverage, very tasty and different)

Highly recomended.

This festival in Obidos, is so spectacular, jousting sword fights and lots of small local shops, you can dine like a knight for a small amount of money

If it happens that you're near Óbidos during this event, it's a crime not to come. Óbidos itself takes you some hundred years back as you have the castle, typical medieval houses and people always willing to tell you stories. But during this event, the whole place fills up with actors, taberns, music, food... all medieval style! And you can get some typical cloths also, and be part of the party!! In 2013, it was 6€.

When we arrrived at Obidos from the bus from Caldas, we were faced with a parade of medieval characters and right there and then, i knew we were in for a treat. My wife and i had the most fun in years that day.

In this medieval fair you pay 6€ for the ticket and you have access to many shows, like singing and dancing groups, clowns, jousts, the castel assault (if it's friday)...
The atmosphere is great: it really gives you the feeling of the medieval age because everyone is dressed and behaving properly, which, along with the medieval music, gives you the feeling of being a king or a queen in the 1400's.
Inside the fair, the food is not that expensive at all (the most expensive things are the sweets and coffes) and you have access to beautiful spaces to eat: they really did accomplish that medieval atmosphere with those huge wooden tables and misterious little corners.

The Medieval Fair of Obidos tales place in July each year. It is in the Casle and for a modest entry fee you are reated to an afternoon of street parades, jousting, music and food. The food stalls/restaurants appear to be from the 1500's but the taste is evcellent. All in all a great day out!

The medieval market happens once in a year, normally during summer period for 15/20 days. It's always good to see the medieval period recreated here, great actors and wonderful atmosphere. Don't miss it, if you are coming in the summer period.

This finishes this Sunday so time is running out. At the weekend it opens at 1pm. It's worth getting there a bit later when everything is set up. We arrived at 4pm and went straight to get a good seat at the jousting ring which is on the left as you enter the paid area. The first show there starts at 4.30.
You don't need the €7 ticket if you just want to wander around the World Heritage site village - just to get into the medieval fayre at the very end of the lane near the castle.
As you enter the village you can hire costumes and get your hair plaited etc.
Once inside the fayre area it is mainly food stalls and others selling rustic goods.
There is plenty of authentic music/bands etc to keep the atmosphere going.
Gets a bit rowdier into the evening.

It is amazing to see everyone in Obidos transform into a person from the Medieval times at this very well made festival. Everywhere you go within the walls of Obidos during this time it feels as if you are taken back to another time a time of knights, princesses, castles and lore. There are several events throughout the day ranging from feasts, parades, performances and jousts. It is a lot of fun and can be recommended for anyone!
