This aqueduct extends for miles as it carries water down to the town from the nearby mountains. The Roman style archways are quite the sight.

The aqueduct was constructed in the 16th century to transport water to the town. The project was funded by the queen of Portugal (Queen Catherine) and she sold her lands that surrounded Obidos to pay for the construction. There are larger aqueducts in Portugal but Obidos aqueduct is fully intact, which is what makes it special.
By visiting the old town , the municipal carpark is right next to the Aqueduct which is very convenient!.

Going to Obidos, you just might drive past or glance at this terrific Roman aqueduct. I'd advise you to stop for a moment and think about the 1500's and the building of this excellent aqueduct. Amazing.

I have never really seen an intact aqueduct like this so I was really impressed by it. I gave it 4 because I couldn't find any explanations of it locally. I think they could make more of it rather than concentrating on the commercial aspects of tourism as the town seems to do.

Strange to see this well preserved and maintained aqueduct running alongside a carpark. From the wall of Obidos one can see it running towards the fields in the distance. A great sight hinting at the wonders inside the walls of the city.

Very well preserved and intact aqueduct that seems to run forever. Located at the parking area, it is hard to miss.

This is one place in Portugal where you dont have to go out of your way to see the Aqueduct remains. A part of it is closeby to the parking lot so just a stroll down will get you to this great historic piece of the Roman times.
