We were visiting relatives in Chippenham and decided to see what this park had to offer. The Council manages it as an amenity for the locals, with plenty of green areas and trees, as well as the obligatory Bandstand (popular free Sunday afternoon concerts from May – September), tennis courts, Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) for e.g. football and basketball, a playground and a Refreshment Kiosk.

The Splashpad is for children under 12 (open from May – September) and is very popular with our relatives in the area.

We spent less than an hour walking around on a cold January day but you could obviously spend much more time on sunnier days!

Alderman John Coles (1842-1916) was a businessman and benefactor whose legacy enabled the purchase of this park, opened 23 May 1923.

The Council sees John Coles Park as "the jewel in our crown, a beautiful green space in the heart of Chippenham". We can see why!

Parking may be a problem, as there is only a very small car park off Fleet Road, but we managed to park just near it.

Lovely large park for all generations to enjoy. Well landscaped and looked after. We enjoy walking, cycling and scooting around the park. Children love the park and splash pad in the summer months. The ground in the playground can be very muddy and wet in the winter months, so wellies and splash suits are recommended.

Cafe with friendly staff, serving a good selection of drinks and treats. My kids love the Swedish Glace vegan ice cream cones.

Clean toilet facilities. There is a car park, but limited spaces,

Lets be brutally honest, this park has high reviews only because it is the only attractive area in another wise dismal, turgid and run down town with absolutely nothing going for it.

The Park is pleasant enough in the summer, with a little cafe from which to get drinks and snacks and sufficient room to sunbathe without being disturbed by other uses - but at the end of the day it is what it is, a large patch of grass in an otherwise totally forgettable town.

You can spend a pleasant couple of hours here sunbathing with a good book - on leaving your options are either to get in your car and drive somewhere decent or walk around a town which has 10 charity shops, half a dozen gambling establishments, a multitude of pubs and a poundland - in other words a town for cheaply dressed gamblers with alcohol issues and penchant for cheap rubbish from Poundland.

Do yourself a favour - Give Chippenham a miss and visit Bath or Bristol - far classier and more interesting

Spacious areas for children to play, dog walkers and added bonus of concerts on Sundays in the summer, great playground area, new water park, established shop with ice creams, drinks and other items for snacks.

I have visited this park a few times now and it is very well kept, clean, good facilities and a lovely atmosphere. Most parks aren't as nice looking nowadays but this one is a credit to Chippenham! Its lovely!!

How wonderful it is to find such a well-maintained local amenity; I almost feel it is worth the Council Tax just for this one.

As a child I remember some wonderful parks and recreation grounds, but somehow as you get older either that magic gets tainted or things just are not what they used to be; well, that is not the case here! This park does take me back to my youth and whoever is responsible for maintaining this park, whether that be a team or individual, is doing a jolly fine job!

Reasonably-priced refreshments and a bandstand are icing on the cake, but very nice and welcome too.

Take the time to enjoy this park and if you are a parent please make sure your children learn to respect and treat it well.

Reasonable play area for the kids although it is a bit too focused on 1-3 year olds. A bigger climbing frame and slides for slightly older kids would be good.
They are building a paddling pool for the summer which will be good.
The cafe was very nice and cheap, and the manager a friendly chap.
The rest of the park is very well kept.

I have lived by John coles park most of my life and I have always enjoyed visiting in spring and summer time. Nice place to sunbathe or just relax. Cafe for refreshments and a park for children to play in. There is a quiet garden to one side if you feel like just relaxing in quiet among the flowers. Every Sunday afternoon the local band come along to play it's nice to stop and listen in the sun. But even in the colder months it's still a nice walk for fresh air park stays open for the children same as the cafe. All in all a lovely place to relax in :)

I was walking into town in Chippenham during my visit to Wiltshire when I discovered this little hidden gem.

I was quite intrigued by the what looked like a small park only to be amazed of how big and well kept it was.

It was definitely a delight to my morning. I had a lovely time walking around the park being greeted by the many pet owners and dogs walking around the park.

I especially enjoyed walking around the fountain and listening to the calming sound of this. With lovely flower arrangements the park is just what you need to have a short break from the noisy outside world.
