Quiet place with touch of history. Awesome views to village and to mountains. You can go there by two different ways, wasy walking, even in winter.

The church was locked but there are wonderful murals on the outside to look at. There are three huge crosses at the top of the hill behind the Church, with wonderful views and some lovely stations of the cross along the path all the way up to the church. A nice stop.

Santo Stefano (Stefano the Saint) is a little, delicious, church at the very start of the magic Val di Genova valley location on the top a little rocky mountain from where it dominates both Pinzolo and Carisolo towns.
Built, I mean, in the middle romanic age period is completely made of stones and woods and has amazing astistic work on its wall (both outside and indoor).

This jewel can be found perched high on a rock overlooking the village of Carisolo at the entrance to Val Genova. The original building was erected in 1100 and extended in the following centuries. It was frescoed by the Baschenis family, who were wayfaring painters from near Bergamo. The splendid Danza Macabra (Dance of the dead),on the external wall, shows humans and skeletons (death) dancing together. Inside the church you can see fascinating 16th century paintings depicting the Last Supper and the legendary expedition of Charlemange through the area. Douglas William Freshfield mentions this church in his book "The Italian Alps" as he visited it on his descent from Val Ganova, after having conquered the peak of Mt Presanella in August 1864. Well worth visiting. Open during the summer months, when local volunteers are happy to act as guides or you can hire audio guides in English, German or Italian.
