Adele and Lorenzo helped me so much when i was stranded with non WiFi in Punta Ala among the corona virus delays.... Very grateful and hopefully will be back to play some golf soon!

Expensive and not worth cost.

The golf Club is very nice but not worth the green fee. Played it in early May 2017 and was not advised that they had just punched and top dressed the greens. No discount because of this was mentioned or offered. It is a mountain course which we love playing but this one needs a lot of love and care. The rental clubs are dated and not clean as expected. Although the people are very nice and hospitable we would not return.

Another Excellent Luncheon

Not to be confused with the Golf Hotel this is an excellent reasonably priced restaurant with a wonderful view. I had the mixed sea food starter, mussels, stewed tiny octopus and squid salad we then shared a first rate baked sea bass with vegetables.

Beautiful views and lovely course but the upkeep is lacking

We played this course as we visited Punta Ala. Its a long ride up the hill and then you play along the hillside with views of the water. The greens are not well kept and there was 3 inches of water in one pin! UGH Other than that they have rentals and carts, and are pleasant. The golf shop is overpriced for logo items.

Golf at Punta Ala

The view was very pretty and the course was in pretty good condition. I believe last year watering was an issue and it is getting much better. There is a lot of wild life in the trees to ignore.. Boars.. So they say. We did not see any. Make sure you get water to hydrate you.. Nobody will be filling your cooler and there is not a halfway house.. It gets very warm and the course is not easy with the different elevations but a most enjoyable day of golf played in 4 hours..

A very challenging golf course

As part of our Tuscan golf vacation, we chose to play for our final stop at Punta Ala Golf. The package organized by the hotel (Golf Hotel Punta Ala and reviewed on T/A) included the green fees for two people. The golf cart, which is recommended for such a hilly terrain, will need to be paid at the pro shop, separately. The fee is 45 euro. The golf course is a short 5 minute drive from the hotel through some very winding uphill roads in a spectacular forest of oaks, cork and pine trees. Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the course was carved out of the mountain side and trees were removed to make way for the fairways and greens. But do not despair, the vegetation has since come back making this course a very tough track. Do not be lulled by the short distance of the holes and the course rating of 73.3 and slope of 139 do not tell the entire story. The many dog leg holes, strategically placed large trees and frequent punch shorts will require critical course management. Overall Observations: - Understated layout but it will test your golfing skills; - Great mountain and ocean views with delicate breezes; - VERY undulated up & down hill terrain with challenging lies; - Pretty tiring if you walk the course, locals do it, I did both and recommend the cart; - Great greens with tricky breaks which will slope towards the sea; - Bermuda grass has been planted in the fairways but it is still very uneven growth (was told that last season due to drought the local municipality did not permit them to water So much of it died); - The tees are bushy and generally of poor quality. As soon as the Bermuda grows the appearance will greatly improve; - The bunkers are okay but the soft sand makes for some very interesting shots; - Remember- you are at sea level and going uphill- you will need to club-up even by two irons on many shots. My favorite par 3s were number 6 and 11 which were 170 and 180 meters in distance (185/195 yards), respectively, over some serious ravines: Ignore the dangers and just focus on the flagstick! As for the par 4s, on the front nine, holes 5 and 8 demand the best of yourself. Hole 5 is a dog leg right of only 374 meters (410 yards) which requires an accurate center fairway initial shot if you want to have a clear view to an uphill two-tiered green. The 8th hole is rated as handicap 1. Your golfing pride will take over on this straight but uphill par 4. I guarantee that you will walk away from this hole feeling very humble- Mamma Mia. If the flag is placement is red (short) your put may roll off the green and if it is blue (long)…just keep on walking. On the back nine, hole 12 and 16 are very interesting requiring as much accuracy in the placement of your first short as it will in the required distance to the green. The 12th is the second hardest hole on the course driven mostly by the required 420 meters (460 yards) and the accuracy of your tee shot. Anything that may be off center will impede a clear approach to the green requiring some challenging punch, fade or draw second shots. While the 16th hole is a short par 4 with only 338 meters (370 yards) and a challenging second shot over a ravine. The two par 5s that provoked the most risk and reward for me are both on the front nine: Hole 4 and 7. The fourth hole is an uphill … all-the-way … par 5 where you need to negotiate the tree line on the right and an immense beautiful pine tree on the left. Given that this is a dog leg right both of these visual and physical obstacle come into play. You stance will always have a strange uphill lie making you draw your second and third shots. The gently undulated green has some delicate and unsuspecting breaks. Hole 7 has a very scenic view of the ocean and if you place a down-the-middle drive you could even have a chance for a birdie. The pace of pay was between 4 hours and 4 1/2 hours. All in all, we had a good and enjoyable time.
