Hired the Layla Boa for a week and went to Skipton. Easy to deal with the company and once we arrived Lewis and John gave us a quick summary of the boat and offered to go with us on the first leg of the trip. Having been on canal boats in the past we skipped that but John met us at the first set of locks and took everyone through what we needed to know and that was brilliant. There were four adults and two five year old children plus a small dog and the boat was comfortable and can't think of any problems at all to be honest. The route to Skipton is stunning, working its way across the Pennines and as I had never been to Skipton before found that to be a lovely town and one I intend to visit again. Considering this was during the school holidays the route was surprisingly quite. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Canal Boat Cruises of Riley Green and hope I will get the chance to use their boats again in the future.

In the dim and distance past, well Christmas 2019, we were given a voucher for Afternoon Tea aboard the Romance Restaurant Boat. Unfortunately a global pandemic prevented us from using it. Despite all this when Canal Boat Cruises were finally allowed to resume their activities, we were still able to book. In fact the person I called was very helpful and informative and a date was fixed 29 July 2021. So first a big thank you to the back office staff.
The cruise itself was wonderful and relaxing. The two ladies who served everyone were attentive and worked hard to keep everyone refreshed. They gladly stopped for a chat despite being kept busy. We were served a plate of assorted sandwiches and a portion of pork pie each followed by a warm scone with clotted cream and jam and two small fancy cakes. They were all delicious and very fresh. Tea or coffee is included, tea in China cups and a tea pot, coffee in a Cafetière. There was a well stocked bar (additional cost).
The cruise lasted 2 1/2 hours during which time we watch the world glide by as we stuffed our faces.
So if you have a free afternoon and like a good afternoon tea, then I highly recommend Canal Boat Cruises.

We spent the week leisurely cruising the Leeds and Liverpool Canal on Bridie Bear to just below Bank Newton and back to Riley Green. We were fortunate with the weather, as we only had half a days rain during which we had ties up.

Bridie Bear was an excellent vessel, well planned out with a comfortable layout. The boat is well maintained by John and Lewis and we had no mechanical issues during our trip and the boat handled with ease when in the locks and around the twists and turns of the Leeds and Liverpool. The quality of the inventory are to be complemented, with most items looking new or relatively new. The interior of the boat is also well maintained and kept in good condition by the owners.

This was our first time on the Leeds and Liverpool and from our experience it is a canal that keeps you on your toes. Manoeuvring a 57 foot boat in a 60 foot lock does not lend itself to complacency!

The canal has many interesting sights as you pass through Blackburn and Burnley, especially as your climb up the locks towards the Dales.

This was an excellent week on a really well maintained vessel that is a credit to Canal Boat Cruises of Riley Green, I would definitely use them again if we choose a return cruise on this canal in the future.

The whole booking process and any questions were handled without issue from Bridie in the office and Lewis gave an excellent introduction to the boat and made sure we were happy with everything before we left for our trip.

The welcome pack of cheese, biscuits and a nice bottle of Merlot were a welcome surprise and greatly appreciated.

Just finished a week's cruise and absolutely loved it! Both John and Louis were very kind and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The boat we were on was called 'Bridie Bear' and had everything you need for a week's cruising, plenty of room inside, great kitchen and a lot of space at the rear for the pilot. Will definitely take a boat out from these guys again.

We booked 2 weeks on King Louis starting 11th Sept. We have been on several canal boat holidays before, but I can honestly say that this was by far the best one so far! Both John and Louis were very friendly and obviously passionate about the boats, which were very well maintained, they went out of their way to make sure that everything was in place and that we were happy with everything before we set off, and made sure we had the mobile phone numbers in case of any problems we may have had. The boat was well laid out with plenty of storage space, the only thing I would advise is to take along a mirror as there is only one in the bathroom, which isn't very useful when trying to dry your hair with a hairdryer in the lounge area! A thoughtful touch was the small food hamper provided with wine, cheese and crackers - very nice!
I wasn't sure about the Leeds/Liverpool canal but I was pleasantly surprised by the lovely views over the countryside and we fell in love with the town of Skipton.
We will definitely return in the future, and would recommend them to everyone.

Have just returned from a short holiday on board King Louis and wanted to submit this well deserved 5 star review.
John and Louis were brilliant. They were very friendly and helpful, and nothing was too much trouble; two great guys who obviously care about their boats and their customers.
The boat itself had everything we needed and was nice and clean for our arrival. The wine and local cheese was a nice touch!
The galley was well equipped with pots, pans, crockery and cutlery and even though we took a few things with us, we didn't actually need to.
There were plenty of bags and cleaning products too.

In the initial stages of post-covid release the pubs weren't all serving food in their beer gardens, which was disappointing, but there were some nice takeaways on Just Eat that delivered to our boat.

I highly recommend Canal Boat Cruises of Riley Green and will definitely be re-booking with them again.

We had a lovely 11 night holiday on board Bridie Bear. A very welcome escape past the old mills of Lancashire to the Yorkshire Dales and back. Great countryside, villages and towns to visit (and even some surprisingly convenient supermarkets!). We were traveling as soon as we could after the lockdown was eased so not all the usual eating out options were available but we still managed a few pub meals and chippies. The boat was really well equipped so eating in was not difficult.

Our 7 year old was big enough to be able to help (under supervision) with locks and swing bridges, which he loved.

The service from John and his family was excellent from booking, to training us up on the boat and locks, to support along the way.

Had a fantastic week on the King Lous last month courtesy of John and Louis. We went from Riley Green to Skipton and back. John and Louis took us through the first set of locks and "showed us the ropes". I wasn't exactly looking forward to it, as I'd never done it, but the peace and quiet just going along some lovely parts of the country was just what was needed. Some lovely places along the way to stop and just relax. Weather was very kind too! Steering the boat was great once you got used to it. There was six of us and 2 dogs in an 8-berth and it had plenty of room once we got hang of it. Boat had all facilities that you need. Thanks to John and Louis for making it a special week! Would recommend this holiday and company.

Son and Daughter In Law booked a boat for a wedding reception and the 5 hour trip was bliss with great service and food which everyone commented on as being very good.

Able to come along and decorate the boat the night before and then collect stuff the day after the event just shows how accommodating they were.

It’s terrific value and something very different that all the guests enjoyed. We even got to go down a few locks which was great as well.

All in all a perfect day.

Was given this as a birthday gift and was really pleased with it. The marina is a little difficult to find if you don’t know the area and is behind an abandoned pub which is initially a little off putting.
However the people who run the marina and the Romance restaurant boat are very friendly and welcoming.
The boat is wide , comfortable and well set out for dining and viewing the countryside.
Drinks are served first from the well stocked bar . Wine , beers and even cocktails as well as lots of soft drinks. Was very well catered for as I didn’t want carbs was served a delicious salad with ham , cheese and egg. Instead of scone and cake had a tasty fruit salad served in a glass bowl. Partner had the standard sandwiches, pie, quiche and scone with cream jam and butter. Also had Battenberg cake , shortbread and strawberries. There were also Lancashire crisps and tea and coffees. Earl Grey was good. The scenery was great and the cruise lasted two hours . Toilet was clean and there’s plenty of parking. Very enjoyable afternoon.
