Took my two girls out for a one hour mackerel fishing trip on the Jolly Dodger today. Fishing was hard. Everyone caught fish of some kind, so there were smiles all round, but only one mackerel was caught. Despite that it was a great trip. The skipper was really good, the kids got a taste for it and want to try more, and we even got to take home some leftover mackerel from a longer trip earlier in the day which we have just finished eating. Would definitely recommend and will be back to try the three hour trip.

We went on the one hour mackerel trip. We didn't catch anything but who cares! The sun was shining, the view was great and the crew were really friendly. My boys (age 10 and 11) really enjoyed it even though they didn't catch a fish and want to do it again.

We did the 1 hour trip on Dawn Mist and thought it was a good choice as we were beginners. It is good for beginners as it requires little skill and would be good for children too. It was a little disappointing as none of the 9 people on the boat caught anything and the skipper was not at all surprised. In fact, he told us that we should expect for it to be a nice hour long boat trip and if you catch anything, it's a bonus. I don't disagree with this but it's not at all how it was sold to us. It's worth doing but prepare yourself to come back empty handed!

We did the one hour trip which is done with hooked lines. This is perfect for families as the skill required is minimal. Team was friendly and helped out. Everyone got at least one fish and the view of the Jurassic cliffs is stunning.

Lots of car parking spaces at sensible fees. The harbour attracts lots of families doing their drop net fishing. There are plenty of fishing opportunities and the town has a more than adequate supply of restaurants. The beaches are also expansive and you get the chance to explore the two cliffs either side of the beach. It is well worth going for the ease of parking and eating if travelling around Dorset.

My husband and our 11 year old son did this fishing trip together. No-one on the trip caught a single fish, so very disappointing for the money they paid.

We are sorry you are disappointed with your experience. Even the most experienced anglers will tell you that fish are not guaranteed. I can assure you this is a very rare occasion, you just have to look at our amazing portfolio photos to see that. Sometimes the fresh air and a day out to spend with family and friends is all our customers will catch. Kind regards Sam Toms. (The Skippers Son)

I took my son out for a 1 hour Mackerel fishing trip on the Jolly Dodger. While the crew were friendly not one person caught a fish despite mackerel shoals visible in the harbour mouth. Having fished for many years, I am happy to say that catching mackerel in the summer really isn't that hard. To prove the point, the fisherman on the harbour walls caught loads of fish while we had none. Perhaps I am being cynical, but I don't think the plan was to catch any fish as this would have made a mess that the crew would have gas to clean up. Much easier to take everyone's (easy) money and have a clean boat. I will say my son did think it was exciting, but he had Hopwd to get just 1 small fish...
