Neighborhood: Malá Strana (Little Quarter)
Malá Strana is one of the oldest and the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city. Nestled underneath Prague Castle it was once a part of the Kings route taken by future kings on their way to coronation - originating in the Old Town, crossing Charles Bridge and leading to Saint Vitus Cathedral. Cobblestone streets are lined with picturesque medieval houses, remarkable palaces, churches, kitsch shops and restaurants. Do not hesitate to turn a corner into any narrow street. You will suddenly find yourself in a calm and charming neighborhood full of hidden gardens, parks with peacocks, fruit trees and ponds. As the neighborhood is a home to Czech Parliament and many ministries, you can also run into well-dressed officials. If you are thirsty or hungry, it is the right place to be. Restaurants offer delicious traditional food and of course, the best Czech beers.

These gardens are the perfect place to take a well deserved rest after having visited the Castle when you leave it by its eastern side and go down the long path to the Vlatva River.

It is located in the heart of Mala Strana and if you have still some strength left it will be the appropriate break before continuing after the Castle in Mala Strana.

You can take a look at some of the pictures I have attached to see for yourself if the place is worth your time .. I believe it is ...

The greenery is relaxing, and so are the flowers, the magnificent trees and even some peacocks and other birds you can see there around.

The sculptures and bronze are also worth your time (Hercules ?).

There is also this interesting Wall which is famous in Prague and that it would be a pity to miss.

With Kampa Park, the Waldstein palace Gardens are my preferred places to relax in Prague and make the day in Prague less straining and more enjoyable ...

Definitely worth the detour and a break ...

I have been to the gardens many times looking at the Wallenstein Palace from the outside.
One weekend in September, I think it was Saturday, the building was open and we took a self guided tour. Most people know that the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic has its seat in three ancient palaces. Wallenstein is one of them.

The building is truly magnificent, prize winning restoration took place in the nineties. The Wallenstein Palace history is most interesting.

The entrance is free. There are free booklets in several languages with beautiful photographs of very good quality.

It was an unplanned , educational and most enjoyable visit ....

Waldstein Palace (also known a Wallenstein Palace) is now the home of the Czech Senate. Some of its most magnificent rooms are open to the public on weekends for free.

I read about this tour, which is only offered from 1000-1700 on Saturday, while researching Prague on the internet. Surprisingly when I asked about it at our hotel and elsewhere no one knew anything about it. The tour is free and self-guided and they do give you a descriptive pamphlet in multiple languages. When built in the 17th century, the ornately decorated Main Hall was only surpassed in size by the Spanish Hall in the Prague Castle. The Knight Hall is covered with veal leather tapestries and large chandeliers. Other rooms include the Mirror Hall, The Audience Hall and the Mythological Corridor. After viewing the Senate Building I recommend that you walk next door to see the Wallenstein Palace Gardens.

This is the Senate Building in Prague, and is well worth visiting. We had a little trouble finding it in the first instance, but once we had we enjoyed the opportunity to explore this most magnificent building. Entry is free, which was a lovely surprise to us.

It has amazing paintings on the walls and ceilings, beautiful wooden doors that have intricate hinges and locks, and great tiles in the fireplaces. There are lovely pieces of old furniture throughout the rooms as well.

Take your camera along, and make sure to get plenty of photos.

We were really looking forward to visiting the Wallenstien Palace whilst in Prague but we did not realise it is open only at the weekend.
It was not a waste of time as we went into the gardens instead, absolutely beautiful and free to enter.

Wallenstein Palace (Valdštejnský palác) is a Baroque palace in Malá Strana, currently the home of the Czech Senate and not open to the public. However, I recommend visiting its gardens! As part of the Wallenstein Palace, the Wallenstein Palace Gardens feature a large pond (used for small boats in the past) many statues (of Greek mythological figures) and fountains which are copies of the original ones made by famous Dutch artist Adrian de Vries. Take a particular look at the huge "sala terrena" (or garden pavilion) with its rich stucco decoration that looks out over fountain and the row of bronze statues.

At the bottom of the Castle lower gardens, behind walls that hide this magnificent garden. The palace is home of the Czech Senate. The garden is free and very impressive, especially the limestone grotto with "hidden" grotesque faces, frogs, snakes. White peacocks and hens roam the garden. Impressive fountains and statues.
