About
Founded in 1875, the Liszt Academy is the only institution bearing the name of Ferenc Liszt in which the great composer himself had an active role in establishing. The university, which has been functioning for more than 140 years, is the bastion of music teaching and musicology in Hungary. The Grand Hall boasting unparalleled acoustics is a legendary concert venue in the Art Nouveau conservatory (1907) on Liszt Ferenc Square. Since its reconstruction in 2013, the institution has handled independent professional concert organizing activities and earned itself a reputation globally both as a university and a concert centre. In 2016, the Liszt Academy won the European Heritage Label for its outstanding role on the European music scene, for its preservation of European traditions, its creativity and openness worthy of the spirit of Ferenc Liszt, and for its dynamism springing from the duality of university and concert centre activities.

We got tickets for Saturday group guided tour in English followed by a concert of one of the Academy students. The tour was very informative. I didn’t expect at all to see such a grand concert hall inside. It’s #5 in the world with the best acoustic! All decorations are simply exquisite. I wish we would stay longer in Budapest as I would love to see classical concert in this wonderful hall

I visited the concert hall of the Liszt Academy for a Christmas concert (traditional Hungarian Christmas music). The building is really beautiful. If you like Art Nouveau you should really visit it.

Waste of time and money.
10 min walk in the museum about 1500 huf each ticket. you are not allowed to take pictures. nothing much to see. We came there since it was late to go inside the house of terror that is located next to it.

You can pay to go on a tour of the newly reopened and refurbished Academy but a much better way to see it is to go to a concert there, We had seats in the choir stalls about 10m. from the conductor and they cost £4.50 booked in advance. This is the premier concert venue in the city and the setting is absolutely superb both inside and externally. You can wear smart casual and feel comfortable.
The interior of the building has great art nouveau paintings, mosaics, coloured marble columns and great acoustics. One of the highlights of our holiday

We were fortunate enough to attend a Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra concert on the 26th of November where they played works by Richard Strauss, Zoltan Kodaly and Igor Stravinski ("The Firebird").
The hall is outstanding and the acoustics were perfect; we were in the 3rd row center (seats 11 &12) and the price was ridiculously cheap compared to the USA.
The only thing was that the seats were a bit uncomfortable but that is just trying to find a fault...

Went to s classical concert at the theater but the real star was the stunning theater. Everywhere you looked was an artistic detail. Plus the organ is world renown and quite large with great sound. Concert of various composers including Liszt was wonderful.

This music academy was totally renovated a few years ago and it’s former glory is back. They have guided tours in the building every day and it’s well worth to visit. Beautiful both inside and outside. Mind blowing that many famous classical artists have been educated here as well as been teachers. Don’t miss the statue of Sir Georg Solti in front of the building on the left side! See it also in the evening when it’s lit up, love it!

Little do tourists know that Music Academy offers free concerts on regular basis. Concerts performed by both students of various departments of the Academy and invited artists. Information in English about upcoming concerts at budapestfreeevents dot com website.

We did the English tour and it was great. Not a lot of people were in the group, and I got the idea that is normal....That is their miss. The tour was terrific, and you get a small group convert. My children left inspired. They complained walKing there, but were in awe when we left.

Terrifically talented kids demonstrating their skills in an annual concert accompanied with a superb all female 60 voice choir and full orchestra. Just to sit in the extraordinary concert hall (similar to the Musikverein, Vienna) was a joy. Loved every minute and extra good value. Tickets can be bought on line.

Добрый день. Для заказа билета в Академию Листа на 09.11.17 мне нужен план зала, а я его нигде не нахожу.
При заказе выходит только № категории мест, а плана зала нет. Как быть?

The performance we wish to attend is sold out. What are the chances that last -minute tickets become available or that there are people selling tickets on the street before a performance?

I cannot help either - I was in Budapest during the summer Holidays and was Lucky enough to catch the excellent guided afternoon tour. - But your best chance would be to try for tickets ordered, but not collected, just before the concert. You might even have luck in that someone turns up with ticket(s) which cannot be used because of illness etc. and are Thus given away -

I'd like permission to use your photo of the lobby of the Liszt Academy that is on this website in an educational DVD.
Can you advise me as to whom I should write for this permission.
Thank you.

Hi, my husband and I will be visiting Budapest for the first time 19th to 23rd May. Love the idea of going to a concert in the FL Academy! Would it be OK to just pop in? or would we be safer to book tickets in advance? If better to book in advance, how do I go about it?
Also, the baths? Are they open to the public? Can you decide to get in if you are simply passing by or is it set times only?.......not for me - he'd love it! Thank you.

We bought our tickets for the FL Academy at the Academy's box office the night of the performance we saw (just an hour ahead of time), and the prices were incredibly reasonable.
