Kovacs Nimrod winery is the best place to get to know the wine of the Eger Region.
The cellar dates back to the 19th century and is a magical place where you can see lines of barrels filled with their world class Bull's Blood (Egri Bikaver) or their incredibly tasty Chardonnay. Noemi hosted us in the visit and in the tasting of 6 different wines explaining all about them, it was a memorable journey in the world of Eger's wine. Super recommended, a must-go if you are in Eger!

Perfect tour, perfect wines. Highly recommend this place. Noemi was a great host. This was the best winery I ever visited.

The default option for visiting Eger's wineries is to wander around the Szesspaszonyvolgy where several of them have glorified sheds, offering tastings and sales but there is no feeling of where the wine was made or how. KNW has bought a row of old wine cellars in town and use them for making and maturing the wine which is nice to see and despite it being Sunday were happy to accommodate us in a bespoke visit and tasting; thanks to Judith who came in specially. The company don't even use the Bulls Blood brand - this seems to be a legacy now - but all the same is alive and well as it's proper incarnation of Egri Bikaver, the bespoke blend unique to Eger which always contains as its main varietal Kekfrankos (aka Blaufrankisch, or Lemberger as it's known in the States - Pennsylvania etc) plus any number of others, depending on the producer. But it was a great treat to visit this winery and then drive over to the vineyards of the Nagy Eged. I would recommend visiting here and also drive up to AES who have a tasting facility in the middle of their restored vineyard on the Almagyar Hill - with great views.

Some super wines but an even better experience. We got to tour the modern winery as well as the ageing cellars. The tasting room is in one of the cellars and has a great feeling. Highly recommended.

My wife and I had a very enjoyable afternoon at the winery. Its only a 10 minute walk from the main square.
Noami was very helpful and did not rush us. She was excellent at organising the visit as well.
You can have different tasting sessions and Noami will give you the price list for you to choose.
Well worth a visit.

Great wine and interesting back story. We really enjoyed our visit here.
There was a good selection of wines and we were able to change the selection slightly which was great.

The cellar visit was agreed via emails, no issue at all. We have even arrived earlier than agreed but our host invited us in, finished the previous tour and ours could start. We went for the expensive wines. They were great, although I am no a red wine fan, I quite liked their creations, but the white wines are top!
Our host told us a lot about the winery, it's history, the story of the founder, and during the whole time she was very patient with those "more loud" guests :) I would recommend to everyone to try their wines, they are worth it.

Beyond the amazing wine, the staff and entire team was so welcoming and did such a great job not only telling the history of the winery but of the region and types of native grapes and wines. I feel like we need to go back again to hear more (and of course drink more wine!)

I had a lovely wine tasting @ Kovacs Nimrod Winery with three friends. On before hand I had been communicating with Pintér by mail and she was so kind and very transparent and informative about the tasting. Unfortunately we were too late to book a lunch with the tasting so I would recommend you to book at least 12 days in advance if you would like to have lunch with the wine tasting. On the afternoon itself we were kindly welcomed by Pintér. Full of energy and knowledge, she told about the winery and about the six wines that we were going to taste. She brought us on a tasteful journey through Hungary's finest wines and also showed us the winery itself. Tip: I would totally love to see the vineyards as well so maybe it's an idea to offer more extended programs in the future? I would definitely come! Both the quality of the wine and the hospitality is great. Pintér, thanks you were a great host!
