During my short visit to Siofok I've been walking around to see the water tower however due to other things got there after it was closed to visiting.
Nonetheless it is a landmark of the city that I've seen only from the outside, still interesting - I do recommend when you are in Siofok do a better planning than I did so you could get to the top of the tower and enjoy the panoramic views, I hope I can do it during my next visit.

Lake Balaton is a natural wonder unfortunately Siofok is not the place to enjoy it. The area near the lake resembles a shanty town, made up of bars, which border on sleazy and untraditional restaurants where you will be challenged to find any Hungarian cuisine. Bars, noise and yelling continue well into the morning. There is no charm or character. Access to the lake comes at a price. They call it a beach but it's mostly weed infested grass, filthy toilets and more bars. You can't even see the lake due to the shanty town - their biggest asset is under lock and key. There are small pockets of free lake access but these resemble swampy patches. Hotels are not worth the prices being asked. I'm still confused why anyone would return here, particularly after seeing young families walking their kids past sleazy pole dancers on the maim street (on the street!!). Filthy. I booked two nights and was trying to leave after the first. First hotel was filthy, so much so that i refused to stay there. The one I finally settled on started at London rates, but I was able to agree to more reasonable fee, which was still far greater than you'd expect to pay. Prices in area are crazy. You can do better than this. If you must do Lake Balaton (think hard), I suggest you consider camping. You'll sleep better. Travel to/from Siofok on the train is not pleasant. My journey was on a hot day, having bought first class, assigned seat, there was no practical display of where my seat was. I was glad to be on the train out of there (alas 50 minutes late) in cattle class, no air conditioning and no airflow. It was only in Budapest that I noticed a tiny sticker on one carriage. As per most of Hungary, don't expect railway staff to be helpful or willing to show you your seat, especially if you paid a premium. They know, they just don't care. Four weeks in EU and I must say that 2 days in Siofok was "the" low point. You can do better. Don't do it is my advice.

The over 40 m high water tower was built in 1912, demaged in World War Two and operated as water tower till 1980. Later it served as tourist office than after a large scale of reconstruction works was open to public as a look out tower in 2012. Now there is a cofee shop and a rotating adventure centre ont he top from where you can enjoy a 360 degree panoramic view. In good weather the view is just amazing. I would recommend to visit it.

Siȯfok is the largest city from the Balaton shore, located at about 90km from Budapest.
In this city was born in 1882 the prince of the operetta, Emmerich (Imre) Kàlmàn, in a Jewish family (his real name was Imre Kuppstein). Imre Kalman was very popular in the first half of XXth century, particularly because the Countess Maritza, Csardaskiralyno (Quinn of Csardas). You can find details on the life and great career of Kàlmàn Imre on the internet.
The house of Kàlmàn family is located close to the railway station (no more than 250m), on the street Kàlmàn Imre. It is a one storey building most probably from the end of the XIXth century that nowadays houses a small museum dedicated to the great composer. Although there is a tendency to hide the building with too many kitsch small shops, it is easy to identify it on the left hand no more than 200-300 m from the railway. You can speed here 30 to 45 minutes with the accords of Csàrdàskiràlynö in the background. The ground floor houses a small exhibition of personal things of Imre Kàlmàn, including the piano.
On the other hand, everything in the museum is in Hungarian. It is very good, but not enough; I suppose not all the visitors do speak this language as I do. There is only one brochure about Kàlmàn Imre, and no CD/DVD or others available with works of this great composer. The museum needs a significant improve to show the real contribution of the composer to the world culture. If you want to remember some great songs, and maybe you do not know that Kàlmàn was the author, and you are by chance in Siȯfok, don’t hesitate to visit the Kàlmàn Imre Museum.
Tipp 1. You can come by boat from Balatonfured. The trip lasts about one hour.
Tipp 2. If you do not like museums, you can visit the water tower. From the top it is a nice landscape on the eastern Balaton.

You have to pay to have a view over the city, but there is nothing to see. You better go to the Abbey of Tihany. Then you have a better view over the lake.

A good example how to modernize an old landmark by adding a rotating bistro at the top. You can enjoy some refreshments in two service levels, while being seated and enjoying the offered 360 degrees panoramic view. A surprising nice touch to the center of town!

Good coffee and great view from atop the water tower overlooking the Siofok city square. It's worth the entry fee and the purchase of the coffee.

This tower was built by my husband's grandfather, and we were very gratified to see the plaque honoring him and his partner at the entrance. The glass elevator showed us a unique view of Siofok as we went up and when we got to the top and sat down for coffee, the revolving restaurant showed us a great panorama of a very beautiful site. The cashier at the entrance didn't know a word of English, but one of the waitresses managed a sentence or two, but couldn't give us any history of the tower or it's restoration, which is pretty magnificent.
