    A Golden Wonder
One of the most impressive and sacred Buddhist sites in Myanmar. It is a towering structure that dominates the skyline of Yangon, adorned with gold plates, jewels and bells. The pagoda is said to enshrine relics of four ancient Buddhas, and attracts pilgrims and tourists from all over the world. The best time to visit is at sunset, when the golden stupa glows with a magical light. Shwedagon Pagoda is not only a stunning monument, but also a living testimony of the faith and devotion of the Myanmar people.

    Worthwhile Tour
The Pagoda is massive and gorgeous, set in what seems like a small Buddhist city of buddhas. Very ornate. Guides were available for private tours. It is a quiet and peaceful place with many photo opportunities.

    An amazing place
An amazing place, worth to pay a visit. A very peaceful place. We arrived just before 17 pm to see both day lights and sunset. The temple get very different colors. Prepare your clothing. Bring a plastic bag to carry your shoes The western gate has elevators, even though it was not so many stairs. 8000 kyat/person even for child.

    Majestic and iconic
Visiting the Shwedagon Pagoda in Myanmar is like stepping into a majestic dream. The iconic golden dome gleams in the sun, and the hallowed grounds are a sight to behold. I was in awe of the majesty and beauty of this incredible place. Truly a must-see destination!

The most serene location in Myanmar
The most serene location in Myanmar. It makes the mind clear. The enormous golden pagoda is the main draw. It's a location with history. I plan to visit Shwedagon Pagoda upon my next visit to Yangon.

Shwedagon is a huge Buddhist temple on top of a hill in central Yangon. It is fully covered with gold leaf and has many expensive gem stones on the crown part of it. It is a holy as well as a spiritual site to visit. I had the fortune of visiting on New Years day along with a lot of pilgrims. It was a great spiritual experience. One has to dress modestly or you may not enter. Foreigners have to pay to enter and the whole process of visiting the temple has been efficiently organized. Foreigners have to enter at a certain gate and use the elevator to go up the hill to visit the temple. One interesting aspect of Pagodas is that all four sides look similar. Keep track of where you entered from. The walking area seemed to be laid with marble tiles to make it easier to walk. The whole building is solid and cannot be entered. Idols of Buddha in various poses are various points along the sides of the Pagoda. The Pagoda is a holy site and should be respected. Along the approaches to the pagoda there are vendors selling various items connected with worship. Professional camera men are available to take pictures of you and produce laminated copies to record you visit.

Shwedagon resembles the most precious jewel of the crown. It's Yangon's & Burma's most impressive pagoda, in our eyes. There are probably over a million pagoda's in Burma and many of them are unique, very impressive and important but Shwedagon exceeds them all and not only because it's magnitude or number of visitors. Visiting Shwedagon extracts & summarizes the Buddhist's importance in the Burmese culture and for the Burmese people. The pagoda is very big, located upon a small hill, noticed from distance, it's surrounding gardens are impressive and walking up its entrance corridors makes one already understand how special it is. Its richness is very well noticed, even before being told about the magnitude of precious stones stored up the pagoda's pole. Walking around it and noticing the respect & holiness the local's revere is touching no matter from which religion you come from. I recommend trying to visit Shwedagon late afternoon to see the mass of people coming for their evening prayers and if possible as the last pagoda in the tour – otherwise many other will seem minor and boring.

Most sacred Buddhist place Pagoda in Myanmar. A wonderful place to visit. The Pagoda is covered with Gold and shines when sun rays fall on it. There are long corridors with shops on both the sides leading up to the entrance. There are four entrances on the 4 sides i.e. East, West, North, South and there are multiple levels upto which you can drive your car and take entry into the pagoda (if you want to climb less stairs, go upto to the top level). They also provide maps when you pay the entry fees to guide you inside the pagoda. There are corners for each day of the week i.e. Monday corner, Tuesday corner ... corresponding for people born on the respective day. I highly recommend to visit in the evening and stay there for around 2 hours so that you can enjoy the view at daylight as well as when the Pagoda is lit up by artificial lights. The Pagoda can be seen from nearby places and when the morning sun rays falls on it, the scene is really worth watching.

We spent there couple of hours including meditation with local people, we came at sunset time which was great idea ! All the candles 🕯 and lights gave to this place extra ambience which is unforgettable... we witness a group of young monks praying which looked just so special ! It is a big complex so reserve enough time to visit it all.

Totally mind-blowing! I've been travelling Asia for around 17 months straight but was still completely wowed when seeing the main central Golden pagoda for the first time! Recommend to arrive by maybe around 4pm to catch the pagoda both before sunset and after (at night it looks stunning). I hired a guide for around an hour for 12,000 Kyats at the entrance gate (after a bit of bargaining). She had great English and really enhanced my overall experience. Entry fee of 10,000 Kyats for foreigners is still super cheap considering this is probably Myanmar's most popular attraction.

This pagoda is truly amazing and ovewhelming. The central golden stupa is immense and surrounded by many beautiful temples, pagodas and stupas - it is unique, I don't think I have seen anything else like this. You can spend easily 1-2 hours here walking around looking at everything and taking in the atmosphere. The entrance fee was 10,000 Kyats each, but well worth it. This has to be number one on your list of things to see in Yangon. Worth buying some souvenirs here in the long arcades leading up to the pagoda as we didn't see anything else like this in Yangon (like in the Bogyoke Aung San Market for example) and the prices were very reasonable too.

This is probably one of the most famous and beautiful Pagodas in the world. It was 10,000 Burmese Dollars to enter for foreigners and I suggest going at night when it’s cooler and the floors are marble. But the Pagoda and grounds around the Pagoda are breathtaking.

After weeks of traveling around Myanmare, I saw many Pagodas.
But honestly, this one is for me the most impressive one.
A „must see“ and you can skip others without hesitation.
The atmosphere in this cleaned up Pagoda is really special.
Most tourists are visiting in the late afternoon, I recommend to go at 11am, not crowded then, almost no tourists and much more authentic.
During this time you can feel the silence and the spirit.

My wife and I visited this stunning pagoda complex in the early morning when the light was softer and before most arrived. It is a beautiful and memorable sight— a photographers dream. I would suggest getting a guide for an hour or so to put it all in context. On the Sunday morning we went — via the east gate there were no guides around at all. On enquiring the lady at the desk rang U Hlaing Myint whose English and knowledge of the pagoda and Buddhism was very good. We would recommend him. His number is 959 791681148 or he can be contacted on WhatsApp and it cost us $10 US

Wow...but ....is rather unfair! Just amazing place, gleaming stupas and spires and so much mystery to those like us with a very limited understanding of Buddhism. We had gone about 9.30 a.m. with a guide but though his English was fairly good, he was not always easy understand and after an hour of hard to hear and understand complex explanations, and increasing heat with a face mask on due to the coronavirus issue, it became very tiring. We were also unaware they only accept kyats, not $ or credit cards. Nevertheless it is a must see sight!
