Me and hubby walked into the entrance of the temple. A young girl that worked there motioned to remove our shoes, meanwhile she’s getting a bunch of flowers and ‘umbrella’ for us saying that we need this to make an offering. Entrance fee $5 each, flowers -a few bucks. You then go up some stairs. Next thing we know a ‘helpful guide’ starts explaining how things work explaining how and where to make the offerings of the flowers, how and where to put the umbrella. “It was a good day he said, we would receive good karma etc”. Long story short after a 10 minute private lecture which sounded authentic, he demands a $20 (Canadian) donation each. I didn’t appreciate the pushiness of it. He had a lanyard around his neck with what looked like an official ID in his shirt pocket.
Not worth the experience.

It is on the tourist map and is probably the other most important Pagoda to visit after Shwedagon Pagoda. The pagoda is golden but this is due to the paint. The crown of the Pagoda is encrusted in gemstones. An entrance fees is charged to foreigners and you can avail a guide. Be careful when paying the guide as they deny having change and you end up paying a lot more. Shoes have to be removed before entering and modest clothes have to be worn. It is a peaceful place to pray and it is creates a roundabout for traffic. There are foot over bridges to reach the Pagoda. At the base on street level various shops line the Pagoda and you can find Palm readers and Astrologists in case you are intrigues. The Pagoda is in a great location and other sites of Yangon can be visited from here.

Sule Pagoda or Sule Paya is a small pagoda, but is highly revered because it enshrines a hair relic of the Buddha and is known to be built during the lifetime of Buddha, about 2500 years ago. We got into a taxi from Shwedagon Pagoda to Sule Pagoda. Sule Pagoda is located in the center of Yangon, surrounded by busy streets, a market and colonial era buildings like the Supreme court building and Yangon city hall. This is the place for more than 50 cats – that was one of the main reasons I showed interest visiting the place.

Much, much smaller than Shwedagon, Sule sits in the middle of a busy road junction, entry is about half the price (only payable in Kyats and no credit cards...as at Shwedagon) of Shwedagon and you can walk round it in about 20 or 30 minutes.

It does not compare to Shwedagon...so go here first!

Located in the heart of the city, so there’s no excuse to miss it. There’s a small fee to be paid. Shoes n socks off pls. A good walk around to see people praying. There are areas where to can still down and appreciate the still/calmness of the pagoda, relative to the busy city street just outside. There’s a part where you can put your prayers on a golden boat that will be send into one of the stupas. Interesting to see

The word 'Sue' derived from "Su Way" which mean "Gathering". Sule Pagoda is also as old as Shwedagon Pagoda. It is marked as the center point of the city and a popular meeting place for people.

This pagoda in central downtown is interesting because of all the shops tucked in underneath it. Not what you expect from your average pagoda! I didn't go in here but the outside is really fun, set as it is on a very busy confluence of city streets, with all the attendant brouhaha going on. It's opposite Independence Park, which is a little calmer.
If you're going to the Shwedagon (which you should be), then visit this pagoda first, because although grand in it's own right, pales into insignificance.

Beautiful Pagoda at Downtown Yangon. At the centre of Traffic Island in the busy commercial hub area of Yangon. Generally take close to one hour for going around the Pagoda

The pagoda is in the center of a roundabout. A bit too expensive to enter, and lots of touts both inside and outside the pagoda. Good photo op, but that's about it. Sule is very pretty at night under the lights.
