- SnowyShastaPortland, Oregon2,151 contributionsLarge market near the center of ZagrebThis is a large mainly open-air market near the central Jelacic Square in Zagreb. We aren't big shoppers but were in the area multiple times and looked around a little as we were nearby or walking through. There are lots of fruits and vegetables, as well as more touristy souvenirs to buy. It's hard to miss if you're walking anywhere through Zagreb.Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 4, 2023
- Ginges_revengeBrisbane, Australia4,732 contributionsNot as vibrant as it maybe would be in summer. This market in reading was supposed to be really vibrant and a big tourist spot in Zagreb. I guess when we visited in March 2023 and it being the end of winter, it wasn't as vibrant as it would've been in the summer period. The market was about a third full of stalls and was quite dirty with a lot of litter on the ground. We had a look around and even bought some of the lovely fresh fruit on display which tasted really nice. Their was a lot of locals around doing their grocery shopping and its always good to see how locals live. A nice market but not as vibrant due to the period of the year we visited.Visited March 2023Written July 30, 2023

So many of the restaurants buy their food from this market. Even on a dull December day the outside market was busy. Inside market is a bit ‘communist’ - if you get my drift. But worth seeing and if you are a tourist like us, you can’t help but pass through it.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 12, 2023

The central square of the Old City has this wonderful market. With the mass of red umbrellas, it calls to the visitor. Just walking through puts a smile on your face. We saw lots of fruits, nuts, mushrooms, and other produce. There are vendors that sell crafts and local home made items. We wandered through and picked up enough goodies at reasonable prices to have lunch at the cathedral fountain just around the corner. By the way, they also have very nice restrooms. Surrounding the market are some local bakeries where you can get a drink or roll to round off your lunch. A market is always the best way to know local people.

Very interesting to see outside stalls selling fresh local produce in an old fashioned type of way that has continued for many years. Alongside are stalls selling local products and goods. Underneath is another market selling cheese, fish and meat.
This market is a short walk from the main square on one side and the cathedral on the other side. It is an easy walk from this market to many of the surrounding tourist spots

Right in the heart of Zagreb, roam through this colorful farmer's market, just up a set of stairs from Ban Jelacic Square, is a feast for the senses. Dolac is often referred to as "the belly of Zagreb" by locals. Under the iconic red umbrellas are stalls with fresh fruits and vegetables. The vendors are very warm, always wanting to try the fruits. I love the sweet Mandarin Oranges and pomegranates. Head downstairs to the covered market where you'll find butcher stalls, cheeses and dried fruits.
Love going to the local farmers market when traveling. This is always a great way to learn the the culture a d see how the local live. This is must place to visit.

The market is located a few minutes walk from where we stayed, even tough we didn’t buy anything it is worth visiting. It is colourful and the locals say it is the best place to buy fresh food from local producers. A few steps away you have the amazing cathedral and the main square.

The Dolac Market is a short distance from Zagreb main square. It is very colorful and interesting. There is an outside open market with stalls, and a sheltered market below.
You can find fruits and vegetables, cheeses, meat, fish, and much more.
Prices are generally quite affordable.

Lovely open market with so many fresh fruits, vegetables and fish, meat. home made cheese, jams etc. produced by the local farmers. We actually bought some to try and indeed they were good. A very beautiful sight with all the lovely colors and fragrances. You can cover the market and walk down towards the other side where you find the pretty souvenir stores. The place and items were very flavorful. Would recommend to visit this place if you wish to try some fresh fruits. (Visited in Sep 2019)

Come here for a real experience of open air local market. From the main city square look for the stairs and red umbrellas. You'll pass through flowers first, then many fruit/vegetable stands under the umbrellas. In early summer (June) the berries are really tasty.

Is the market only on Saturdays or on weekdays aswell?
Andr3a1o
Zagreb, Croatia1,055 contributions
It is open on weekdays aswell. Avoid those prices that ends on -.99 (9.99kn/12.99...) because they resell fruits and vegetables.
I would recommend one family just in the corner of market - when you go to cathedral.
