We first heard about Peter'swalk from the Rick Steves TV shows and his books as the best available personalized and customized tours in St.Peterberg and we were not disappointed. We spent 4 full days with people from this company...Our guides were Zhenya, Anya and Peter. Each of these extremely capable, knowledgeable, kind and intelligent people went out of their way to share their depth of understanding and personal knowledge about their culture, their city and their country with skill, kindness, patience, passion and enthusiasm. I highly recommend contacting Peter with your requests for what you want to see and he will make it happen for you..be it by hiring a vehicle or taking you on the transit system, buying tickets to a variety of sites and accompanying you with a personal guided narrative as well as by walking you safely and thoughtfully to a neighbourhood or a favourite special part of the city to get a first hand greater understanding of this fascinating place and what it has to offer...they will do it all. You will not be disappointed!!!!! St.Petersberg is truly multilayered and by working with an amazing company you wil be able to use your time and money to your best advantage and see as much as possible in the time you have. They will customize your requests with what you want to see and do by matching you with their people and your interests. Thanks again to Peter'swalk for making our trip to St. Peterberg truly a once in a lifetime experience that none of us will ever forget.

Peter's Walking Tours is a thoroughly professional organisation that is flexible enough to respond to all kinds of requests & its costs are most reasonable (650 rubles, US$ 20 aprox for 4 hours).
We did the Original Peter's walk in St. Petersburg. It was a great way to see the city and learn it’s history. Our guide, Peter was extremely, friendly and informative guide with an obvious passion for his work. He also speaks english very well!
I would highly recommend the Original Peter's walk!!
You will see more than you expect and you will learn more than you thought.

Thank you for such a positive review. It is an inspiration to all our guides as your description grasps our vision of the tours very well: flexible, informative, friendly and passionate.
October can be a beautiful time to be in St. Petersburg. We hope the weather was nice when you were there!

I was disappointed in this walk (a private tour). Within 10 minutes of picking us up (and without any prompting from us, other than answering his question about where we were from), tour guide Nikolay made a comment that America had "started" the whole situation with Ukraine. His tone said that he was disgusted -- and whether or not he meant to direct it at us, that's what it sounded like.
Whether or not that's true, it was a very odd comment that effectively chilled our communication and willingness to ask questions -- in our impression, he sounded like he disliked Americans in general. A few minutes later, he made a vulgar comment about how everything you hear in the "f'ing" media wasn't true. Later in the tour, my husband made an innocent mistake pronouncing a Russian word, and Nikolay responded, "That's OK, it's just ignorance," which I thought was a rude thing to say.
The tour was not a complete loss -- he did provide some info on St. Petersburg, though not as much as I think he could have and was somewhat dismissive of our basic questions about the city and Russia in general. But it simply did not meet my expectations and was not worth the approximately $150 we paid for it. My husband and I have taken many guided tours around the world and this was not up to par with what I expect.
All that being said, when I emailed Peter after and told him what happened (I also gave him a heads up that I would be posting a review here), he apologized sincerely and promised to talk to Nikolay about it. I only hope we had gone on this tour with Peter himself.

There are a number of tour companies that specialize in St. Petersburg. A large number of them service the cruises that dock across town. Through the American Travel writer, Rick Steves, we learned about Peter’s Walking Tour who also provides tours for independent travelers.
We emailed Peter and our wants and wishes. Peter writes excellent emails back to you. His email skills are superb. We did get a number of great ideas through our correspondence.
Peter does offer a guided tour for the historic part of St. Petersburg. It is reasonable. You show up at a designated area and the tour is for four hours.
We arranged a “private tour.” One day for St. Petersburg. and a second tour to Catherine’s Palace to see the famous “Amber Room.” My wife was more than nervous visiting this city.
We decided to do Peterhof on our own. The fountain areas are the main focus there and we felt a guide wasn’t needed. Peter agreed and gave us a few ideas.
Our personal guide was “Dimitry.” He is extremely competent and friendly. He was very good to us and understanding of our ways and attitudes. By the end of two days, he was our friend.
We were concerned about what we read about the aggressive “pickpockets” in St. Petersburg. Peter and Dimitry warned us of such activities. I think it was funny that Dimitry and I worked out a system that if he suspected anyone to be a pickpocket specialist, he would warn me with the word, “THIEF.” Dimitry never did warn me.
On our guided tour of St. Petersburg, the four hours went by very quickly. I enjoyed finding out where Rasputin was murdered and the hotel where Hitler was going to celebrate after winning the Siege of Leningrad.
We were amazed on how he cut throw alley’s we would never find on our own. Dimitry gave us ideas on where we could eat—loved King Pong—and most of all showed us how to use the St. Petersburg metro system. We were able to use the metro the following day to go to Peterhof.
Dimitry did advise us to visit an area called “New Holland” on our own. What an interesting new area in St. Petersburg. We would have never went there without that knowledge.
Having a guide to Catherine’s Palace made a world of difference. The palace is a good distance away from central St. Petersburg. Dimitry was able to negotiate a good rate with the taxi. Being a registered guide, he was able to cut-through the large tourist groups and we were right in Catherine’s Palace. It seemed he knew all the officials.
Walking around Catherine’s Park was special. Dimitry took us around the lake. Every so often he would take our picture.
There is no question that we highly recommend the use of “Pete's Walking Tours.” We never did meet “Peter.” If having Dimitry as our guide, a reflection of Peter’s company, I suspect Peter to be one heck of a tour guide himself.

Our Guide Evgeny was very knowledgeable. We really enjoyed his explanations on how the city developed and what it went through in various stages of its (also recent) history. For us, doing this tour at the beginning of our tour was very useful since he also pointed out the best times to visit the sights. The local good restaurants visited by the locals. We really enjoyed our time with him.

Mitya our guide was excellent & paced the walk to suit the group
Back streets and ally ways plus we visited Lenin’s room (pictured) - you just have to imagine the thought processes which went on in this room

We were on a cruise, and Peter's walk was recommended to us for our 3 days in St. Petersburg. Dmitri met us each morning at the boat for the customized tour we had set up in advance. Everything was taken care of- taxis, private van for the day at Peterhof, private boat tour, tickets to all the museums. It made our trip painless and informative. Also at least half the price the Cruise line would have charged us for the same trip. Dmitri's knowledge of the history, architecture, and art was bottomless and he also knew fun things like the Blini stand to have lunch. Highly recommend.

I got in touch with Peter after a recommendation from a friend. We needed a 3 day private excursion from a cruise ship that would also be kid friendly. It was awesome. He was great to work with in the planning stages, offering thoughtful suggestions for an itinerary to keep the kids entertained and very responsive to all my questions. We booked 3 full days with a guide, car and driver. All were great. Dmitry, our guide, was wonderful, knowledgeable, organized, and incredibly accommodating.
This was 1000 times better than the overpriced cruise ship group bus excursions. Book Peter, you will not be disappointed.
Not to miss: Peterhoff (take the hydrofoil). Private boat canal tour (take some wine). Hermitage (take some time). Armory Museum is enormous.

We are interested in an one day bike tour around St Petersburg on June 28, 2017.
There are 3 of us and we would like see the major sights as much as possible.
Our ship will dock at 7:00 am and leave at 7:30 pm. We can be a part of another group.
Do you offer such a tour on that day, if so what would be the cost in USD? If you don't have such bike tour, do you have some else you can recommend. Thank you

Hello,
We will be glad to arrange an individual bicycle tour for your party. It is a sea cruise you’re coming with, or a river cruise? If it’s a sea cruise, are you planning to have obtained Russian visas prior to arrival, or are you intending to make use of the visa-free entry scheme that is available to cruise passengers (under certain conditions)? If it's the latter, we will be able to help you with it - please contact us by email. I cannot post the address here but you’ll find it on our tripadvisor page. In your email please indicate the name of the ship and give us a rough idea of how many hours you would like to stay ashore with us.
Sincerely,
Peter

Has anyone done the white nights bike tour recently? I will be there at the end of August. Would love to hear about people's experiences. How dark does the evening get in late August? The bike trip starts at 10.30pm; is it foolish to cycle around St Petersburg in the dark?
PetersWalkingTour
St. Petersburg, Russia1 contribution
Hello mzmeowus,
Regular reports from our bike tours can be found on the facebook page of St Petersburg Bike Tours (our alias for the bike tour department). I am not allowed to post a full link here, but you can find it on facebook under biketour.spb. We are currently working on creating a separate listing here for the bike tours, and hopefully will have it set up so you can track our clients’ feedback.
The White Night Bike tour will be offered until the end of August, every Tuesday and Thursday. It won’t really be “white nights” in late August, but on a clear night it’s a very pleasant ride. The amount of electric light around central St Petersburg makes it easy and enjoyable. Hope this answers your questions.
Sincerely,
Peter

Hi there :) I would like to ask, if there is any food stops during the tour...Thank you!
PetersWalkingTour
St. Petersburg, Russia1 contribution
Hello Martina,
Our daily Original Walking Tour does not have a set itinerary - the route always depends on the participants’ wishes and the guide’s ideas for the day. So, if the participants agree they should stop for a snack or a coffee then we definitely make a stop. A proper lunch stop is perhaps best done after the tour so we don’t use up the valuable tour time. Our guides always recommend lunch places, and often finish the tour at a lunch place.
If you book a private tour with us then you can request a food stop as a part of the tour - we will customise a private tour any way you like. We can do a private tour focusing entirely on local eateries and food culture in fact:-)
We visited a totally cool new place during our Original walk yesterday - an abandoned Art Nouveau mansion in central St Petersburg, just being occupied now by a bunch of low-key hipster cafes and bars. Real St Petersburg chic - forged iron banisters with elegant floral ornaments, turn-of-the-century floor tiles, crumbling ceilings, and a cheerful barista with his cappuccinos amidst all that.
When are you planning to join our tours?
Peter
