Ferrugem is a beautiful beach with everything going for it, beauty, often sheltered from the prevailing winds, great surg and great people watching in high season. There is a fun beach bar, called Zado, but be warned it can get really busy in high season with a generally young crowd.

Beautiful and charming.
It was a cloudy day and my husband and I were the only ones there.
Worth the visit.

Great place to see the sunrise. Early in the morning in summer it was just ours. Great beach for surfing. Fabulous waves.

So now I have been to Garopaba 3 times over 21 years. Good friends live just down the road in Imbituba. For Brazilians, this town is almost a pilgrimage. What they don't realize is that Brazilian beaches, when compared with say, Thailand or Caribbean, are just so-so. That makes Garopaba one of the better "so-so" beaches in southern Brazil. But as with Thailand, Garopaba has been overdeveloped to a degree but nothing like its counterparts. There is at least a modest conservation sentiment here. Brazilians treat beaches like religious centers. That's great for them, but after a couple of hours I am bored. This town is great for a Sunday beach day if you are in the area. But certainly not worth a trip here alone. For activities, there are the standard beach bar type places. Very noisy and full of posing young people. There is no peace here. In the Winter, the place is a ghost town of course.

This is a beautiful place God gave to humans who, as usual, are transforming into a hell. The primitive taste of the site is gone and little by little it is becoming as the other crowded beaches of Santa Catarina. Ugly constructions by the sea, bad and expensive restaurants and all kind of dirt over the shore vegetation that should be kept and conserved. However, it is still a magnet for the young crowd.

This beach is really natural. Lots of surfing around. In carnival it gets super crowded as Ferrugem is one of the carnival spots of the region. At this time the town gets lots of visitors mainly from Brazil and Uruguay. There are parties in the streets at night and even in the day the party goes on, but in the beach! There are groups of people wearing costumes, music and drinks. Great for people under 30s. Overall the town is simple, so don't expect any luxury accommodations, although there are some houses for rent that are really nice. I believe shared accommodation called "pousadas" are the popular choice.

Praia da Ferrugem is the perfect getaway! It has a beautiful beach in connection with a lagoon where a company has kayak and stand up paddle to rent. Around the beach there are amazing view spots - I suggest walking up the hills to enjoy it to the fullest on both sides! During the end of the year this beach is so busy that kids traveling from all over South America even have parties by the sand. It's definitely worth it! Enjoy ;)

I went for the first time to Ferrugem in February 2008 and found an incredible natural beach, with a small river just connecting to the sea. Incredibly beautiful and with nice waves for surfing as weel.
