We had visited one time before for a plant sale. Not worth it but hey, give them another chance. They were promoting Scarecrows in the Garden and hundreds of butterflies in the Butterfly house. We paid our $8/pp and found that there weren't nearly as many butterflies at advertised. Pretty but..... Then to the scarecrows... Not like any scarecrows I've ever seen. They looked like papermache or something. The were not the typical scarecrows and they were just OK, not great.

If you haven't been, don't waste your money. Do something else with the family.

My BFF and I visited this garden on our way through Dothan. WEAR BUG SPRAY!! Other than the bugs flying in your ears and eyes, the gardens were spacious and beautifully maintained. As someone with OCD, these were fantastic. Thank you for having everything clearly marked and labeled. What we really enjoyed and had no idea existed was the lock gates. Both of hurried to FaceTime our husband's to show this part of the garden. It's a fantastic idea.

I used to love going to the gardens but my last visit was horrible. Payment has changed from a voluntary donation to mandatory admission of 5.00 per person. I wasn’t aware of this and entered the gardens. The staff called the police lied and said that there was a domestic disturbance just to get them there. We did not engage in any disruption whatsoever but had only broken the payment rule without knowing it. We were approached by a very confrontational police officer in front of our children and basically accused of behavior that didn’t happen just because the staff were upset we didn’t pay. If they would have let us know we would have been happy to. Very immature worker’s with severe lack of communication skills.

The Dothan Area Botanical Gardens has been developed primarily with volunteer labor and donations. Some sections are still under development, but in season it is ablaze with beauty. A paved path winds its way among various kinds of gardens: roses, azaleas, flowering shrubs, succulents, aquatics, and others. All placed in a setting of pines and flowering dogwoods. The Gardens include a "wedding garden" all set up for outdoor ceremonies. Guests are greeted with a new visitor's center and friendly information. The cost is $5 for adults which can be deposited in a self-serve box at the entrance.

We wandered around the botanical gardens in Dothan while we waiting for our hotel rooms to become available. It was a great, quiet retreat and our daughter and dog were able to release some pent up energy from travelling. I would love to go back and simply enjoy the gardens while not exhausted.

I like visiting here a few times a year. There are constantly changing exhibits and the grounds are well maintained for. Parking is almost all shaded and there are vending machines at the main entrance.

This site could be covered in about two hours if you're taking your time to enjoy everything.

The Botanical Gardens are lovely this time of year with azaleas and camellias blooming. Take a relaxing stroll with your loved ones while your children run around and play happily.

The small Japanese garden is filled with koi and goldfish and will add tranquility to your walking trip. This is the perfect place to get a little exercise in a beautiful environment.

Have a Blessed Day!

This garden is not huge, but, particularly in spring, it is quite lovely. It's just a half mile or so off of 431, so it would make good place for travelers on the way to or from Florida to stop and stretch their legs or have a picnic. Paved trails wind throughout, from destination to destination. There is a fairly recently built facility that one can reserve for parties. The trail loops from there to a raised bed herb garden. It then bisects a rose garden with a pretty fountain and passes a small walled alcove (with a book lending station nearby) ideal for an afternoon of quiet reading or a picnic before leading visitors to a small pond. Here the trail divides. One can either go back up the trail to see a fruit and vegetable garden, with a working windmill, a butterfly garden, the cottage garden and the historic greenhouse or visitors can choose to take the trails leading into the wooded area of the park. A Japanese garden, complete with large koi pond is back here, as well as shade gardens and a succulent garden. There are some dirt paths in this area too, that lead into forested areas and near some wetlands. As you come out of the natural, forested area you'll see azalea and camellia gardens and a day lily garden.

There's a pretty outdoor area designed for weddings and a gazebo where we once got stuck during an impressive lightning display. There's also an outdoor classroom if any teachers want to take advantage of the place. I often take my dog for a walk there. The park asks that you keep dogs on a leash, but it makes for a pleasant walk. I'll walk the loop two or three times. There are lots of pleasant places to picnic, but they don't have many trash cans, so you might want to bring a garbage bag to throw away your trash. Save some of the leftover bread to throw to the fish in the big pond or the koi pond - that was always a hit with my kids. It's also stroller and wheelchair friendly.

Admission used to be a donation, but now I believe they ask you give a nominal entry fee on the honor system. It seems like it's $3 or $5 - I can't remember for sure. You can become a member - a family membership is $50, individual $35 and it will get you free admission to this garden, as well as 300 other participating botanical gardens throughout the U.S. It also gives you discounts at some local nurseries, discounts at the gift shop and a few other perks.

The Botanical Gardens is a free area where multiple gardens (with a theme) converge. It is on the north side of Dothan off 431 and it features many different trees, flowers and plants. It's a perfect spot to take kids, go for a walk or enjoy the peace and quiet.

I even got married here. The gardens are well keep and during certain holidays they have things for kids. I love the big koi pond. And they are always putting in new things. Many people must not know about this place because it's never crowded and a good place to go and relax.
