My family and I went to KWV in Paarl for their chocolate and brandy tasting. What an unexpectedly great experience! I don't drink brandy at all, but agreed to do the tasting as my family wanted to. The way in which it is presented is great and even as a non-brandy drinker I was able to appreciate and understand the different brandies a bit better.
Apart from the brandy, you can also view their magnificent art collection, which is one of the best in the country. Truly impressive. A highlight to anyone visiting Paarl and looking for a great experience.

Had a great cellar tour with svenja. We made the german guided tour. It was very interesting to see how such a big wine cellar works. The wines are good, but they are well known for they brandy. And we loved to taste their laborie sparkling wines. Do the food and wine or sparkling wine tasting. Its great. A big company, but with Svenja it was very familar. Thanks for that.

I am going to honest, I'm not the biggest fan of brandy, but visiting KWV rates as some of the best visits of my life! Inexplicably, I can not explain this, but as if entering an alternate universe, the aromas and tastes just appeal to every sense in your body! I've never thought of going, as it's not a great love, but was invited there twice, once with friends and then a bachelorettes, but both times I experienced a heightened sense of awareness of how beautiful life can be. Almost historic, so many more products than expected and a woody, spacious, but antique building, that still installs a cosy, happy, inviting place to experience life with friends, family and life. A definite must see and enjoy!

One can be put off by the location of this tasting. If you are used to other winerys, and being out in a bucolic environment, then you are put off by this environment at first. It is in town, right behind the KWV manufacturing plant, not a vine in sight. Parking is in the street right in front, very safe. When you enter you have a reception desk where you see the menu (photo attached) and can order what you'd like or just go in and browse for some alcohol. We had booked and were taken to our table and our server was very friendly and helpful. The manageress, Brigitta, was knowledgeable and down-to-earth. She came by regularly to check on how we were progressing.

There were some kids inside but they were all very well-behaved and is not a place for kids to run around. There is also a coffee shop at the back, but we never tried it, and perhaps that is more kid-friendly.

We started with the wine passport which at R35 gives you an option of 5 choices from the menu. You can choose brandy, gin or liqueurs as well, although some carry the weight of 2 tastings (like the 15-year brandy). I enjoyed all of my options.

Next we had the Taste of Fizz (R45), which was not all my taste with olive nougat for example, but enjoyable nonetheless. Next time I will definitely opt for the brandy or pie pairing.

In a nutshell, I will definitely be back, I loved it. Was going to give 4 stars at first because of the area, but then I realised it didn't minimise my experience and I was on a farm at the tasting before and the tasting after, and this was truly a 5-star experience. Recommend you pop in and give it a try.

What a great experience! I could not believe that there is so many diffrent types of wine that you can choos from. The tasting is great because you can choose cheese or chocolate with your wine tasting.

The visitor's area at the Sensorium is large and rather clinical. The staff, however, were very friendly and the tasting was great. We had a tasting that consisted of dessert wines and liquers paired with beautiful cup cakes. Visitors participating in the tastings should take the time to view the artworks on display, as well as to visit the archive room which details the history of KWV. Previously I visited the KWV Wine Emporium which is in the same area and felt that the atmosphere and offerings was much better. There is an excellent cellar tour on offer at the Emporium.

Nice Pictures (ok taste is subjective) a very interesting and well explained (and inexpensive) brandy and chocolate tasting but the atmosphere is not existing and the main Point is that the whole room is not dampening any noises so every Sound anywhere will travel all along. not good for a quiet enjyment.

So you don't have the beautiful setting of a wine farm but this was a great experience none the less. Visited on a hot 42 degree day so the air on was a great relief. Very good variety and they have a collection of good wines to try. Very clever idea to have them with food pairing. It always makes the drinks taste better!

Dear Charlotte I am so glad you enjoyed your experience with us, despite the extreme heat. Looking forward to host you again maybe for another food & wine pairing experience. All the best for 2016! Maya
