The access to the tower is easy to find and interesting between the treetops. We saw an squirrel very nearby.
After the tower climb we took one of the walks marked as 6 km through the forest. A good section of the walks however, were running along the auto road, at a distance of between 10 - 20 meters only. To our opinion , after crossing the road it should have moved far away from the traffic.

Loved doing the treetop path and reaching the vantage point with the pictured view!
It is a fairly simple path that took less than an hour. There are surrounding trails for further hiking.
Loved it - highly recommend!

We took a walk from our local hotel to this point based on a recommendation from our receptionist. It was a hot day (28c) but walking through the Forrest down to the vantage point was fairly flat and only about a mile.
It’s worth the walk, it’s beautiful and free to do. You can climb the tower for a fee, but I can’t see that it’s worth it. For those not so keen on a walk, there’s a carpark pretty close by. There’s also a bar/restaurant nearby.

The area itself is a great place to walk. The visitors area also has a tree top path you can walk.
The walk takes about an hour and is suitable for a baby buggy or wheelchair.
It takes you to a height up to 14m above ground.
With a price of € 10 pro person or €21,50 for a family ticket, the walk feels a bit expensive. But considering all that is build to make it possible and the interactivity they’ve build into the route it’s worth it.
There are all kinds of informative stations along the route.
At the end you can walk up the tower (no stairs) to admire the wonderful view of the river Saar.

Went there with family and brought the dog as well, dog wasn't allowed on the tree top walk but was allowed to walk down to the river. Long and exhausting walk, with a nice cafe down and amazing views everywhere you go.

It was just a short hike to the lookout from the parking lot - 10 min. at most. The view is very pretty and is probably more so with fall colors, but it's not spectacular. Lock up your car and keep your items out of sight. A woman practically followed me in to the bathroom stall begging for money and I caught an old man looking into my car. Very clearly up to no good because I saw him look around to make sure no one could see him first.

I have been Saarland in 2011 and stayed in little village with my family and our German friends. They took us to Saarschleife and Volklingen. I like Saarschleife most. After parking your car on parking lot of Saarschleife you reach there by passing a big forest. It was autumn when we were here so forest was looking like a painting.
Then when you face of with view, you feel spectacular. You can add this place in your `visit before die list` :) PS: you can also prefer to take a boat tour on the river but seeing from the opposite side is just better (as you se from the main photo)

Like Horseshoe Bend, but smaller : ) A very striking natural feature you shouldn't miss if you're in the area! No need to pay for the expensive new treetop walk - just go to the viewpoint and enjoy this, no need to pay loads of money.

First we have thought why we need to pay in the entrance (10 eur/per person), but lately understand it. Very beautiful view, fantastic feelings to see all the beauty of valley. Highly recommend to visit this place and enjoy the nature.

Is there somewhere open to take sunset photos nearby as the Saarschleife will be closed (I am coming in August and I see that they do not stay open until sunset).

You can take fantastic pictures without going on the wooden platform... for free... Just go behind the parking to the viewing point...You will have an amazing view and I don't believe they close as we walked there behind 21:00 hours...

Baumwipfelpfad is a tourist attraction where you have to pay a ticket to access, it is a hiking trail built like a wooden path high up in the trees, very nice and special, easy to walk with nice views
Saarschleife is the place where the river Saar takes a huge turn and offers a breathtaking view which you can enjoy by walking/hiking to the view point for free or enjoying the Baumwipfelpfad

Hello! Is it possible to drive and park near the Cloef as I am travelling with friends who are elderly. If there is a parking lot nearby thanks so much for any information on where the parking lot is located and how far a walk from it to the Cloef. Is the Cloef easily accessible for the elderly as well ?

Both for the paid option (includes access to the tower, no steps but a slight slope of about 6%) that takes you and your party about 42 meters higher than the free option, as well as for the free option the parking lots are not far away and access is without barriers.
For the paid option (9€ / 10€ p.p.) you have to walk about 100m from parking P1 to the entrance, than some more 600 meters along a nice wooden path through the trees and finally up the spiral -shaped 42m high tower. This closes at 19:00.
For the free option - that does not close - you can park on a different parking lot much closer to the tower (that you cannot access from here!). From here you walk about 150m-200m over a smooth and wide tarmac path to a public free viewing point with almost same view, as this is still located 180m over the actual river.

Is it possible to drive up the Saarschleife and the viewing tower (or at least near by) and what are the opening hours in August? Any chance they stay open until sunset? If not is there a spot near by where you can stay until sunset? Thanks!

There is a very big parking in front of the park. From there it is easy to walk onto the viewing tower.
There is a hotel also and several terraces, but not sure how long the park stays open, definitively until 21:00 hours

Is there access by car? I could not find it. All I could find was maps of hiking from Mettlach to the castle. The map on their website is tiny and not very helpful at all. Are there better instructions posted somewhere?
