A nice day trip
2021. máj. • Romantikus
Vizcaya Gardens is a nice day trip to take in Miami. The gardens are beautiful, although some areas could be better maintained. The orchids are amazing, and the small little area is worth a walk through. The house is a nice place to see, although hard to linger and look around if there are a lot of other visitors. Parking is adequate, with a nice pedestrian walkway to get to and from the lot. The Cafe is really good. The food is very tasty for being a museum spot. Would recommend this if you are looking for a leisurely day outing.

Transport Yourself to 1920s Florida
2021. febr.
We had a great time touring the grounds and buildings within the Estate and learning about Charles Deering and family whose brother actually built Viscaya just north of it closer to Miami.
The grounds, although not the Vizcaya manicured gardens are beautiful. The different buildings are reflective of life in the are in the early 1900's. The highlights for sure are the Stone House and the Richmond Cottage because of it's history dating to the days before Deering purchased the land.
The Boat Basin is unique and a haven for manatees. It was so fun to see a good number of them breaching for air and enjoying their natural habitat. However, I was concerned for them as we witnessed a tour boat that appeared to be part of Miami-Dade Parks called the MDPros Explorer come into the basin with their full blasting engines to drop off a group of people. It is my understanding that boats with such engines are to at least lower their speed and or raise their engines none of which happened. We mentioned it to the skipper as people were getting off the boat and he didn't seem to care which was concerning given the fact manatees are protected and in danger species.
Overall, a great visit and a very interesting place.

MDC employee spoils our Deering experience
2020. okt. • Baráti
Drove 20 miles out of my way, got there at 4:03pm (didnt realize traffic would be so bad due to people back at work and kids in school). Anyway, the gate was open, walked in with my 86 yo mom hoping to go for a short but pleasant walk, then ran back to car for my camera while she kept walking, but then I encountered the rudest MDC Parks employee who proceeded to kick myself and mother out (had to go get her out of the park) even though they stay open until 5pm. I had even brought exact change to pay for tickets since they had asked for it the first (and now last) time I had gone there. I thought the last time I went that they said the gate was open until 4:30pm and the park closed at 5pm. Also, he could have told us that there was a separate little walk nearby down to the water and dock that was part of the park and accessible - but he didnt. He just preferred being on his power trip in his big truck. He waited till we drove off, then parked right up behind us when we were parked in the other lot (where we had gone to do the other walk). He treated us like we were criminals. So fine, I dont need to go to the trouble of going back, and I prefer to just give my money and memberships to Fairchild Gardens and other local parks. Who needs Deering Estate, that experience left a terrible impression. I once worked for a city parks department, and thats not how you are supposed to treat the public.

Fantastic time at Deering Estate
2020. szept. • Egyszemélyes
This past weekend, I went to Deering Estate, in Miami, Florida. They were offering a sunrise photography shoot. There was a small group of us at the event. It was my first time visiting there. The estate property is beautiful and the view at sunrise was amazing. We had an awesome guide, Jessica, who met us at the gate and escorted us back to the area. She was friendly and made sure everyone had their mask on. We had a great time, and it was a once in a lifetime experience. Highly recommend.

Beautiful Park - Florida History - Scenery
2020. márc.
Deering Estate is a somewhat hidden park - just off of Old Cutler Road and SW 168 Ave. The grounds are impeccable - truly represent what the estate would have looked like 150 years ago. The walking trails are well identified and fauna and flora are identified.
Bring your camera the scenery is great for photos - sunrises are the best.
I think it is a bit expensive for a single visit - if local the membership is better.

Take the guided walk
2020. febr. • Baráti
The house is interesting, the walk around the estate is way more interesting. First, we had a picnic lunch over looking the bay, which was very nice.
The house is ok and the history is interesting. We took a guided walk through the estate and it was very good. Our guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. Learned a lot.
Definitely worth 3 hours.

Interesting tour guide
2020. febr.
The tour guide was interesting and well informed. Unfortunately the boardwalk is closed for renovation so there was not much else to do at the estate

Lovely stop
2020. jan.
This is a great stop - staff was very helpful (alerted us to possible manatee sighting in the tidal basin, which turned out to be true!). Unlike Vizcaya up the road (the estate of the other Deering brother), on a weekday we could wander here without any crowding. Do go upstairs in the house - the bedrooms and baths are very authentic to the time, and many items owned by the family are still onsite (or have been returned to the house). Gardens aren't as extensive as Vizcaya, and mangrove boardwalk was still broken when we visited. Do walk to the Chinese bridge about a mile from the house. All in all, a lovely stop with very nice and helpful people. One constructive suggestion - the explanatory postings on the art could be more helpful about dates and sources of the work.

Thank you for your review! Jan - April are generally good times to see manatees in the basin, we are glad you were able to see them during your visit.

Christmas at the Deering estate
2019. dec. • Egyszemélyes
Truthfully I thought the Deering estate and viscaya we're the same.. they're not I like the Deering estate a lot more it's not so over-the-top and majestic.. this brother was into nature and it's a beautiful setting. I went prior to a rainstorm and ran to the car I will be going back it was a great day except for the rain I'd like to see it not decorated for Christmas

commodes in abodes
2020. jan. • Családi
Excellent place to visit with a free day in south Dade. Curiously, if one was a guest of Deering and you needed to use a bathroom---one each in the multiple rooms in both houses--you would be in luck. A fixation with lavatories evidently by the Deering family. The Estate is understated compared to Vizcaya nearby, and Deering seemingly meant it to be so. Refreshingly elegant and eco-friendly, not Rococo and garish...Worth a visit for sure.
