From the moment we set down it was just paradise.
Peace and serenity, a calming of the sole.
Endless untouched beaches with the only foot print but your own.The cleanest island I have ever sean.
And the warm friendly people how will treat you like family.

Quiet , friendly, safe out island. Not much to do but relax on deserted beaches were you are often the only one there. The water is really warm, crystal blue and shallow. The people off the island are the real gems . Take some time and visit the primary school. They are always happy and welcoming to tourists

The flats were an hour boat ride from the launch and few bonefish were seen. Jeff was a good guide and had a boat with a very shallow draft to get us on the flats. The next guide had a boat that drew 12" of water and could not access the prime areas. We waded for hours and saw only a few bonefish, none tailing. Fished 5 days and never got a chance to order our lunch. Got a canned tunafish sandwich everyday. Yes, we were disappointed.

I liked everything. Great hospitality by the Fergusons and Ashley, the waitress at their restaurant. Enjoyed the blamy ocean breeze during the entire trip. Friendliness of all the locals in both Crooked Island and Acklins. The delicious meals prepared by Bernard. Peace and tranquility, leaving doors unlocked, no traffic jam, there are only a hand full of cars on the island. The beauty of the resort and lovely beaches throughout the island. A perfect get away.

My husband & I stayed at Chester's Highway Inn and Bone Fish Lodge. We rented bikes and took the 'Ferry', a very small & fast speed boat, over to Crooked Island. It was lovely to bike around on an island where there was very little traffic. The people on both Acklins & Crooked Islands were super friendly and helpful.
Chester's Highway Inn and Bone Fishing Lodge on Acklins was a treat. Wonderful hosts and excellent home cooked Bahamian meals.
I'm still trying to figure out how I can move there.

I visited friends on the Out Island of the Bahamas for 5 years in a row. I have NEVER visited anywhere as beautiful since. I haven't been in about 5 years and am missing it horribly. I have finally booked our trip for next May on Cat Island.

I wanted to say that Crooked Island and Acklins Island are perfection! My friends own Acklins Island Bone Fishing Lodge but we never actually stayed in the Lodge. We would board their boat and stop in different ports or Cays exploring. Samana Cay, right off of Crooked Island was our most frequent stop. It was where I experienced my first snorkeling excursion. It is a deserted island except for a small shack where the natives strip Casparilla bark and take it to Nassau.

Chester's Bay was where we docked most of the time overnight. There is one bar and one restaurant on the Island. There is one day for the Grocery/mail boat and one day for flights in and out of the Island.

We stopped on Booby Cay, which is an uninhabited tiny island that the Brown Boobies inhabit. (See pictures)

I have never in my entire life seen such beautiful sunsets as there were while boating between these islands.

I truly recommend that if you want somewhere quiet and peaceful with no tourist traps or crowds of people, find a nice Out Island to explore. You won't regret it at all.

We have been to Crooked Island four times since 2009 during the months of Jan Feb and March.
We just returned this year on Feb 27, 2013 to cold weather and snow flurries in North GA.
This was our best trip ever. We have stayed at different locations on the island and I will make a review of those if available.
Crooked Island is a small wonderful "Out Island". Don't expect the hustlel/bussel of city life. You are here for quiet, relaxing, solitude.
