Road Trip
2021. febr. • Baráti
Headed out of Brisbane for the day and made our way to Kingaroy the "Peanut Capital of Australia". A lovely drive, we went slightly off the main A17 to enjoy some of the quite back roads, but only added another 30mins to the journey. There's lots of lovely shops and places to eat. Heading up the A17 there's plenty of smaller towns to stop off in. Of its a day trip leave early to enjoy the many stops offs

The Icon of Kingaroy
2020. szept.
As you approach Kingaroy from any direction the first thing you see are the peanut silos. They dominate the skyline. The silos are impressive and it is a shame that you can only observe from outside the complex. It would be great if they organised tours of the processing area. Maybe sometime in the future.

You automatically gravitate to the silos because the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre and Heritage Museum are directly opposite, and both are a first stop for any visitor to Kingaroy.

Photo opportunity

The Kingaroy Peanut Silos are good for a quick photo stop. It's across the road from the Kingaroy Heritage Museum and Art Gallery. I recommend going to the Apex Park Lookout to get a picture of the town.

Fascinating historical and functional architecture

We were fascinated by these huge peanut silos right in the middle of town. We learnt that they are historically listed and still used. I only wish there was a local tour to do to learn more.

The first thing you think is that these hugh silo's are grain silos. To find out that they are actually Peanut silos is amazing and gives a true picture of how big the peanut industry is at Kingaroy and District. These solos dominate the skyline of Kingaroy. Dont leave town without trying their freshly roasted and flovoured peanuts. You'll be so glad you did.

You can not miss seeing these as you enter this country town. They are the bread and butter of Kingaroy. Hi they are right opposite the information centre.

Impressive sight

Impressive huge silos opposite the Tourist Information Centre. Easy walking distance from most accommodation as they are quite centrally located. No tours of the factory though.

This is a working commercial structure that can hardly be considered to be a tourist attraction...

Some past commentators have made inconsidered remarks about the silos being in the centre of town. Please remember that it is a farming town that depends on the growing, storing and marketing of peanuts and navy beans...the town grew up around them [ not the reverse ] Gosh, why did they put mines in the middle of Mt Isa and Broken Hill? why cane fields in the suburbs of Ingham? etc
Please enjoy the area and it's populace and admire the silos for their emmensity and efficiency and what they contribute to Australia's wealth and society.

Peanut capital of Australia

You can see the silos from town and the immediate question from the uninitiated is - what are these silos used for? They are an imposing sight but not sure if you can actually visit the factory itself. They are an easy walk from motels in the CBD and the museum etc are also in the same area.
