It is not only an art gallery that is also, it is also the painter's story, the story of his muse and the story of his family. I have never felt the presence of an absent painter so intensely. You can enjoy exquisite paintings, all of them should be in a high quality museum from so close and guided by the Rich family, it is an authentic and unforgettable experience.

Interesting exhibition

Having known John Rich some years ago it was interesting to see a broad range of his work. It is a small exhibition which manages to fit in work that he did from when he was sixteen upto his death. There are self-portrait cartoons, large, subtle waterfalls, quirky animal paintings (notably horses and sheep), solitary trees, abstracts that really pop and finally a few of the unusual reliefs which he completed just before he died, along with some beautifully detailed tiny paintings of others he would have completed. It is definitely worth popping in to see it if you are in the area as it is free. If you are interested in any of the works many are for sale and 30% goes to wildlife and mental health charities as John suffered with manic depression at different times of his life.There is a pretty garden with a few unusual vintage items not donated to the museum to see too.
