As my sister had said, she was disappointed in all the concrete surrounding such a sacred spot. I suppose the stories we heard growing up were fixed in our minds, so to see all that hot concrete--we were disappointed. It was quite crowded because it's a very popular spiritual destination. There's a large church, outdoor masses being held in different languages, a modern museum, and a store for religious gifts. There is a tiny strip mall across the street with small restaurants and many, many tourist shops. I can't say anything negative about it except for all the concrete.

It's so amazing how so many people from around the world, with so many different languages and yet we are all there able to understand each other. The church is beautiful. My favorite part was the procession.

Nice spot to visit but not for too long as the tour is quickly made. It is very crowded in high season.

This church is dedicated to the events at Fatima. The story is very good around the whole event and the church is really nice. Totally worth seeing.

Wasn't this an unexpected place to visit in Fatima. The Basilica is quite plain but magnificent. It's also about the young "saints". So much more to see than the Basilica.

I,too, looked for the grotto (childhood memories from the movie) but the overall experience was moving for me. I was particularly surprised that the Fatima shrine complex is larger than St. Peter's Square

Unlike anything I expected. Peaceful, rural, calm and prayerful a truly spiritual place. The Stations of the Cross, a beautiful path through the olive groves, the nightly Rosary at the Cova, and Sunday Mass at the Basilica.

The architecture of this place by itself is worth the visit. Beautiful and vast, you can only imagine when is full of devotees.
The complete area transpires serenity, so I do recommend spending here some quite time enjoying.

I was so surprised and impressed with my visit to Fatima, the church in itself is impressive and huge, but the whole surroundings gives a lot of peace and respect for the beliefs of thousands of pilgrims.
