- JJJourneysSingapore, Singapore2,312 contributionsThe Expo 70s Commemorative Park is a huge park about 50 min away from the Osaka city centre (by metro/train), or 30 min by car/taxi. I took the Midosuji subway line up all the way to Senrichuo Station, and then changed for the Osaka Monorail to Bampakukinenkoen Station. The entire journey took ~50 min and cost ~700 yen for the metro and monorail. From what I gather, locals are more familiar with the name “Bampaku” rather than 70s Expo Park, so refer to it by the former if you need help with directions. It also costs 260 yen per adult to enter the park, which should be valid for the entire day, so do hold on to it if you wish to exit and re-enter. The ticket I paid for was for the gardens only, entry to other places (museum or pavilion) within the grounds will require extra costs.
I visited the park during autumn season, and the best autumn spots it seems are the Maple Valley and Waterfall areas, which is to the west of the sprawling park, or the Japanese Garden to the north of the park. At the Maple Valley area, I highly recommend going up the tree-top walk for the breathtaking view, and do not miss the waterfall! The waterfall isn’t very tall or grand by any means, but the surrounding autumn leaves are a magnificent sight. Definitely worth the walk (some steps and cobblestones) to reach it. The Japanese Garden also has its fair share of autumn leaves, but this time paired with a Japanese garden landscape (like teahouses). There are less steps involved here, so more friendly on the limbs for the elderly. I think what is fantastic about both sites, and the park in general, is that it’s so huge, and there wasn’t any crowd at all on the weekday. Plenty of school groups were here on tour, but there was just so much room to go around. Those two areas took up almost the entire day (at slow, enjoyable pace), so I did not see if there were other areas with autumn leaves. The concentration of leaves, in combination with the surrounding landscape, does really let the beauty of autumn shine through, and I highly recommend those two spots if you are short on time.
Do note that there are not much food options within the park grounds; you’d have to exit the park grounds and head to the nearby La-la Port Expocity. No worries though, just keep your ticket and to re-enter the park. The map (available in pdf on their website, or at the park entrance) does indicate plenty of cherry blossom viewing spots, so I would imagine the park would be fantastic during Hanami season.Written February 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Despite there not being loads of English to read and the tour was in Japanese it was a fab informative tour including seeing the working factory, a VR experience, a 4D ride, 2 pints EACH and a free beer glass! For less than £12! Well worth the effort of going (more so than noodle factory!)Written July 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Diamond FeitOsaka Prefecture, Japan43 contributionsI should be up front: I always liked the Tower of the Sun, I thought it was weird but it was also unique and it had character. It wasn't practical, it wasn't advertising, it was just this big THING and I really dug that. So when they restored the internal exhibit and reopened it to the public, I was psyched to find out what was inside after all these years. Turns out, not much: just more art, really, along with a conceptual representation of the Tree of Life. But for me, a fan of the exterior, I loved seeing it all.
Take note: there are a LOT of stairs going up into the tower and then coming back down, and no photos are allowed once you start climbing. There is an elevator if you require one, but you have to ask for it in advance.Written November 22, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. My wife especially looks forward to the unique offerings & flavors only offered in Japan.
Since we were in Osaka we decided to check out the museum. It was about a 15 minute straight direction walk from the subway station. Admission is free and staff were very friendly. The museum is small but the exhibits have descriptions and information in English. A couple of good photo props too.
There is also an interactive donut making class for a fee where other visitors can watch through a large glass plate window. There’s also a small little “kid friendly”cafe area at the entrance where you can sample small donut pieces with sweet dipping sauces & sprinkles (I believe there was small fee). Of course there was an actual Mister Donut shop connected next door…
All and all it was a fun hour experience (without doing the donut making class). Unfortunately we missed the class scheduled for the morning. Shoutout to the staff of 3 very nice friendly ladies that even spoke some English.Written March 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Housed in the old Steel Pavilion in the beautiful Expo 70 Commemorative Park, the Pavilion contains an amazing collection of models, posters, maps, merchandise etc. The highlight is the model of the Tower of the Sun and attached pavilion as well as the (then) state of the art auditorium inside the Pavilion used during the Expo. This was one of my highlights in Osaka and should not be missed.Written December 26, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Reaching the top of 123 meters height we will see the beautiful Osaka City view at night. The light of Redhorse ferris wheel and Tower of the Sun are dominated in purple light. So beautiful.
Admission ticket is ¥ 1000

So, displayed items depend on the special exhibition. When I visited, the special exhibition was "Folk crafts of India". So, most of the displays were Indian. As I wanted to see Japanese folk craft, it was so against my expectation. However, mini shop has many Japanese items with reasonable price compared to other shops. I enjoyed shopping! When I come back next time, I must plan the date with the same period of "Japanese" special exhibition.Written March 27, 2014This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
