What travelers are saying
- Elijah598Richmond, VA69 contributionsThis place was probably the most spectacular inner-city gardens I have seen. Jardins de Luxembourg was the name, and it apparently was an old castle/mansion whose owners donated the gardens to the City. (I did not know it at the time of our visit, but learned that the French Senate now uses the mansion as its seat.)
Green grass fields, flower-filled gardens, pathways, trees, tennis courts, sandboxes, merry-go-rounds, horse-back riding for kids, to name a few of the amenities. In the center was the mansion with the grounds fronting it - a huge fountain/pond, statues, and well-manicured lawns. While it did not seem crowded at all, there were probably thousands of visitors and children enjoying the park. Even though tired from the long walk, we had fun exploring many parts of the park. It even had a small-scale Statue of Liberty with a plaque noting the history of the statue and the gift to America.Written March 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Lots and lots to see (and do if you’d like a break from the walking).Written February 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Stanislava OSofia, Bulgaria22 contributionsIt would be best if you visit the garden during spring or summer, as it will be more vibrant. We when there two times, but it was cloudy and part of garden were not accessible as they were renovating.
The place is really beautiful and I recommend to visit it in the morning. It’s close to the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay and Musée de l'Orangerie.Written March 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There’s a lot to see and do, but wandering out the island it’s easy to find quiet hidden spots that feel quite unlike the hustle and bustle of a major cityWritten December 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thomas VOakland, CA16,858 contributionsI highly recommend a long leisurely walk all around the island, maybe at night. The architecture is lovely and 18th Century. And the views of the river are classic. We once lived here and it was a village then. Now it feels like the Land of Ice Cream, but the stunning buildings and urban design remain. Spend some time here.Written January 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- david nManchester, UK4,758 contributionsAn enjoyable green space with mature landscape, ideal for that stroll to clear the mind. Well-lit at night too.Written November 25, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Thomas VOakland, CA16,858 contributionsIt's always a serene and upscale garden to visit even in cold weather. Lots of places to sit and rest and observe. Beautiful mansions are all around the park. Some intentionally place scuplture and landscape design placed all around. This is a designed garden for a rich neighborhood.Written January 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thomas VOakland, CA16,858 contributionsOne of my favorite things to do in Paris is to take a long walk in this elevated park. It used to be a railroad line stretching out to the suburbs, long abandaoned, but then turned into a lovely linear park. It connects up with a couple of other much wider parks further east and one can walk all the way out to the Peripherique. Some clever planting along the way.Written January 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Thomas VOakland, CA16,858 contributionsCome and hang out here like Louis XIV did when he was a kid. He played in the fountains. You should sit in one of the garden chairs and gaze at the fountains. Or you can imagine yourself as Colette in an apartment on this pretty square protecting her husband from the Nazis during WWII. This is a gorgeous part of the city, at least a walk through.Written January 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Traveler OWashington DC, DC1,068 contributionsVisited for the annual illumination show over the holidays - a nice light show with a theme that changes annually. Worth visiting for the annual light show (usually goes for a few months during winter months), and then seeing the gallery as well. A very good setup and nice for walking through at night for the light show, but also during the day. Lots of history here as well and you're right by the Natural History Museum too. Easily accessible via 10 Line metro (via Austerlitz station or Jussieu). Good for all ages - stroller and handicap chair accessible.Written December 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Justin WHasbrouck Heights, NJ3,734 contributionsThe park was right across the street from the University of Paris campus where I was taking classes for the week and on my last day in Paris, I was finally able to walk around. It was just so relaxing to walk along the paths and soak it all in. Like a mini version of Central Park in New York City.
I only got to see a small part of the park but still it was nice to walk around it.Written May 27, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. That whole area is completely torn up for the new tramway extension in advance of ‘24 Olympics. Porte Dauphine much better with just a bit of detouring. We are inveterate walkers and were tired by end of day.
Parc’s famous formal rose garden was being carefully groomed for the rose expo this weekend, June 3-4. A nice selection of roses blooming there but nowhere near the height I had expected. The chateau itself closed off in the midst of a major remodel, the rest of the grounds as beautiful as ever. Peonies & irises especially.
And can you beat the price of entry? Almost free, but not quite! Modest numbers of guests present. Tourist hordes absent, perhaps because public transit doesn’t take you to the doorstep.Written June 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Views along the river are always great, but I'd never been along the canal. Great commentary added to this wonderfully interesting trip. The covered sections of the canal and the history behind this were fascinating. The later sections of the boat ride (I took the 1 way trip) were through parts of Paris I hadn't visited before, so a few hours after getting off of the boat led to more happy wandering and exploring. I would recommend this trip.Written September 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Josue CNew Haven, CT508 contributionsParc du Champ de Mars is nice place to get pictures of the Eiffel Tower. It is a long park the takes you from the Le Grand Palais Ephemere museum to the Eiffel Tower. On my visit the park looked pretty nice, pathways were cleared, the grass field were fenced off, seems like they were trying to regrow the grass. I took a stroll at night, and the park has probably the best view of the Eiffel Tower, you can catch the light show, on the top of the hour, take photos and selfies, just an amazing view. Overall, I think that Pars du Champ de Mars is good place to visit, you can walk towards the Eiffel Tower or take pictures.Written December 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thomas VOakland, CA16,858 contributionsThe zoo is here, a good one, and some left over buildings from an international expo. A big castle, worth visiting, and some pretty lakes where one can rent a row boat. A big expanse with lots of room for biking, running, hiking or a picnic, all accessible by the Metro or bus. On the eastern edge of the city.Written January 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
